Title: Of Opportune Moments and Masks Needing Taking Off (1/1)
Fandoms: The Pirates of the Caribbean/The Princess Bride
Rating: PG-13
Disclaimer: none of these characters belong to me. No money is being made. Fair use!
Summary: Captain Jack Sparrow and the Dread Pirate Roberts meet. It's been done before, yes, and probably better than this, but they wouldn't leave me alone on Talk Like A Pirate Day.
Warnings: definite slashiness ahead.

If there was one thing that Captain Jack Sparrow hated, it was being outfamed. )

Title: The day did come
Fandom: Pirates of the Caribbean
Spoilers: for the second movie.
Warnings: none. I cut the fic off before the slash.
Assignment: written for [livejournal.com profile] winter_baby with the timeline of during or post DMC, who wanted to see Privateer!Norrington, Jack Sparrow, and the Undead Monkey.
Author's note: so it's entirely possible that this is unbeta'ed because I'm late enough as is, and I'm ever. so. sorry about that. Fickle muses I had to corner and whip before I managed to get anything out of them.

James had known that this day would come. )

And I swear to you people, I will actually write these drabbles straight off. No pushing it back, no waiting months for them. (And by drabble I mean tiny little ficlet. I can't be bothered with word counts.)

2) Jack the Monkey/Mr. Cotton's Parrot, ...probably not graphic, as that
would be entirely difficult and borderline squicky, but hey, if inspiration
hits, run with it and never look back!

Author's note: I hope this will please you. It's probably not exactly what you expected, but... I hope you'll like it all the same!

It had been long coming. )

This is all [livejournal.com profile] khohen1's fault. She wrote this with Jack (and did a bloody good job of it, too)... and I couldn't resist. I would have done it with James, but then dear Teddy does not get enough fiction written about him, so how could I actually do that to him? Much as I love the Commodore, he'll have to make do with the few cameos he has in here. I'm thinking I should find a title for this, since it was just supposed to be 14 independent drabbles and ended up as a whole (and a character study of Groves, yes).

Alright, so here's the deal: write a drabble for each holy virtue and deadly sin. It's quite fun, btw, as much to read as to write (though it's hell to keep them all under 100 words), so if any of you wants to give it a try, too... I think I might do Damien's soon, but probably in French.

As for those of you who care about Groves in a "what-I-do-of-him-in-the-Highlander-verse" way (or, really, for [livejournal.com profile] heikki_cheren, 'cause I don't think anyone else here does), this is AU. Very much not what happened to the Groves who turned Immortal.

'What about yer god, luv?' )

I really like that piece of lyrics from Placebo's Protège-moi. I think I'll keep it tucked away somewhere and use it as a title for a fic some day.

Anyway. On to more important matters. Happy anniversary to the PotC fandom! Have posted Chapter Six of FoF to [livejournal.com profile] pirategasm in celebration. I just want to, again, rec the work of [livejournal.com profile] firesignwriter, who masters those characters unlike anyone else I've ever read. Her "Moonverse" series is particularly heartbreaking.

Anyway, here's chapter six of FoF.

Ha! I finished one of the two birthday fics I'm working on. Only have to get it beta'ed, now. Hopefully it doesn't suck too much! I really hope I'll be able to finish the second one in time, too. Otherwise I'll just post the beginning on time - though I really don't like doing that. Posting any part of a fic before it's finished. You never know when you'll want to go back on it to have it better suit what happens later. Besides, it saved me from posting some quite, quite bad fiction. Tapping, for one thing, and OMT. I haven't given up on either of them, I simply need to go through them all over again.

To go back to that second birthday fic, I know exactly where I want to go. It's just not something I've ever written before and I'm doubtful I can pull it off easily, and in such a short amount of time. I'll see.

Anyway. Here's chapter five of FoF.

Chapter Five: Still the guns and stow 'em )

So, literature oral this morning: I got a Shakespeare extract! Yay! Don't really know how it went, you can never really know. I don't think I made an arse of myself, which is always good. Teacher was too much of a monolith to let me know whether I'd done good or bad. That guy is impressive - and a well of knowledge, too, which doesn't help with the feeling at ease. Would cracking a smile kill him? But oh well. He sure was a good teacher anyway.

Now I have to prepare my prensentations for tomorrow's oral.

On an unrelated note, [livejournal.com profile] greenie_breizh has completely hooked me up on Showtime's latest gay program, The L word. I again find myself having the hots for the character who sleeps around a lot, how desperate is my case? She's called Shane, and she's... she's got that voice, really. I work a lot on voices, and that voice of hers... Katherine Moennig is the actress's name. Tim also is a cutie, I've added him to my list of guys I wanna snuggle. To go back to Katherine Moennig, I knew I'd seen her somewhere, in that rather bad American mini-series or whatever it was, Young Americans. In which Charlie Hunnam has a role, too (and Ian Somer-thingie, too, I think? Yes, I *will* remember his name some day... some day). It only ever showed in bloody French, so it's really crappy 'cause now, because of Katherine (and her voice), I wanna see it again in English - of course, hearing Charlie's actual voice and accent won't be too horrible either.

That being said, what they're doing with Tina and Bette is quite good as well. They're really cute, and I already liked Laurel Holloman in AtS anyway. (And I hate Jenny.) But yeah, even though they got incredibly lucky with the getting pregnant so quickly, let's just overlook that. Artistic licence. It's really great to see the every-day trouble of this couple, as we would see that of a straight couple. (And I hate Jenny.) Marina gives me a rather Inara feeling, I think she's really interesting. She's the kind of character I'd come up with, I think - her own set of moralities, and she won't let anybody give her any shit. I just can't wait to see her being more developed, 'cause so far she's more the shadow of a possibly fascinating character than anything else. (And I hate Jenny.) And she's got a nice voice, too, but nothing to rival Shane's. (And I hate Jenny.) And Kit is great, too - played by Pam Grier - love the accent. 'Sides, it's always good to see a straight gal in such a gay-oriented show.

Oh, and had anybody ever heard about a lesbian-identified man? Kudos to Lisa! Seriously, a lesbian-identified man? I'm really confused about that. But I love the guy - mainly because he's played by Devon Gummersall, aka Brian Krakow in My So-Called Life (and incidentally Sean DeLuca in Roswell). Got me thinking back to My So-Called Life, this was truly a work of art as far as teenage shows go. I need to look up DVD editions. Besides, look at the cast on that show - Claire Danes, Jared Leto, Devon, and also A.J. what's-her-name (yeah, I get bad with names sometimes). Not to mention one of the first main gay characters on TV. Ha, I still semi-remember the song Jordan Catalano (I love his name) had written for... well, his car. And that piece Angela had written about people being made of paper - the episode with the English teacher that finally ran out on them - Jordan admitting he can't read - the ever so realistic portrayal of Angela's parents' couple difficulties - the pirate and the fairy tale princess - Rayanne and her mum - "you're so beautiful that it hurts" - Angela obsessing on a button of Jordan's shirt - so many things. I really need to see that show again.

To go back to The L word, I've gotta say: I hate Jenny. It might come as a shock (if you, you know, haven't seen the show and don't know Jenny), but yeah. Joey had told me she didn't like her, so I'd quite prepared myself to like her (we tend to very much not like the same characters), or at least to give her a shot, but there is no. Way. At. All. She could have been interesting, but she just comes off as a bitca and a nympho, though she had this interesting arc going for her - falling for Marina while being engaged to Tim, being this artistic type - but no. A nymphomaniac bitca is all that comes through with me. I have trouble seeing what is the point of this arc by now - maybe it'll get better, but so far I think they quite screwed it up. Though, okay, Tim sweetness.

Anyway. On a sidenote, managed to write my WlAS episode in time. Yay! It was tough, and it didn't turn out *at all* like what we'd planned, but oh well. I was getting hopeless.

You are going to Marry Josh Hartnett. He is really
shy, but don't let that fool you. He is really
outgoing and sweet with those he loves and will
be loyal to them for the rest of his life.
Congrats!!

Which male celebrity are you going to marry? (14 choices now!!)
brought to you by Quizilla

Gakked from [livejournal.com profile] twixou, good, I fared better than her (poor her got Justin Timberlake). Josh is rather cute, and he can do quite a good Yorkshire accent (check out Blow Dry with Alan Rickman and Bill Nighy!).

Alrighty. Here's chapter four of FoF (which was again much much improved thanks to [livejournal.com profile] cgwriting), and I'm off to work on those presentations.

Will rant about PoA later, right now I just wanna post chapter 3 of FoF. Again, if anyone's reading, I'd appreciate some feedback. Oh, and while I'm at it: [livejournal.com profile] firesignwriter started another PotC fic which promises to be excellent, in which Norrington and a back-from-the-dead Barbossa ally to go after Jack. I'm quite excited about where she will take it. And she's got Barbossa's voice down just as well as any of the other characters.

As I said, here's chapter two of FoF. And again, please review? A feedbacked (fedback?) Fan' is a happy Fan'. Many thanks go to [livejournal.com profile] cgwriting again, who considerably helped improve this chapter with helpful, constructive advice. And did I mention she was writing a sequel to No Rest for the Weary called Tempus Fidgets, which is Dawn/Groves? Yes, Groves. Yum, as far as I'm concerned.

A Flight of Fancy - Chapter Two )

Yeah, I know, I should be studying. But... I had those last changes I had to make to FoF, following [livejournal.com profile] cgwriting's ever so helpful advice, and then I just decided to start posting it. So there, the whole of the first chapter. Any review would be welcome!

A Flight of Fancy, Chapter One )
That being posted, argh. They're working on the streets around and the whole neighbourhood smells of tar - and I don't want to hear anyone saying "they're putting you in the right atmosphere for FoF" with a look that says "that's what you get for not studying," eh? Which I should go and do. The study thing. A Midsummer Night's Dream awaits - and really, tar is not quite the right smell for the woods atmosphere.

I need people's opinion on the start of this here story. Please let me know what you think of Norri? And am I making Gillette into too much of an arse? It's entirely possible. I just violently dislike the man. And what about Jack? Is he Jack-like enough? Any comment would be welcome, about the nautical atmosphere as well.

So here's the first scene of FoF. )
