I'm back! Phew. Great wedding, people. The not-so-newly weds (they were already married "civilly," this was just the religious wedding) were absolutely resplendant and beautiful, both of them in white. Jérôme was ever so classy and Pauline (my cousin) was beaming in the loveliest of manners. Mass itself was rather boring, I have to admit. Oh, and their baby girl? She's as adorable as ever.
Dinner was excellent. Great champagne, wine, and dishes. Yumminess all around. We were seated at the "80s" table - as in, those of us born in the 80s - outside, though! Thank Joss for the goodness of champagne and wine to keep us warm. There wouldn't have been a big enough table for us inside, or at least that's the official excuse. ;) It was great anyway, and we went back inside when the party truly started. Sis muchly disappointed me by going away to sleep in the car, then, but I danced a whole heck of a lot without her anyway. The DJs were actual DJs (and friends of Jérôme's), so the music was great. I want my wedding (*snort*) to have as much atmosphere! Danced many rocks with both family (my da, obviously, and my uncle, but also my cousins, which was no small feat) and people I scarcely knew. Made my mother waltz, too - didn't know I was able to do that until I did.
My mother has really grown younger in spirit over the past few years. I think going back to work after 18 years helped a lot, too. Part of it must be that my view of her has changed, but I'm quite definite that she, too, has changed. Perfectionist she still is, but she's cut back on it on some things. Going back to work also helped in so far as it made her realise that she didn't need to do everything she was doing, especially regarding us. Took a load off her shoulders.
I love my mother.
It was also great to see my cousin - Pauline's brother. He went through some rough patches a couple of years ago, but now he seems to have got his life back on track.
It was in Indre, near Limoges, so while we were there we took the chance to go and visit Oradour sur Glane this morning, the famous martyr village. On the tenth of June 1944, German soldiers massacred the inhabitants and burned the place down. Now you can go through the ruins. It's quite poignant. It grabs you by the throat and tightens. The things Men do...
