The first 15 people to comment on this post, with a fandom, character or pairing and prompt of some sort get to request a drabble from you. If they feel like it, and only if they feel like it, requesters can post this in their journal and write a drabble for you.

Fandoms I'll write in: Buffy, Angel, Firefly, The Tudors, Skins, Being Human, Highlander, Alias, Lost, Dexter, Hustle, Queer As Folk UK, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Rome, the Nightrunners, Boys Meet Boys, Battlestar Galactica, Carnivàle, Heroes, Harry Potter, Lucifer Box, The Authority, The Pirates of the Caribbean, Pretty Handsome, The Lord of the Rings.

Crossover prompts totally welcome.

Sci-fi-loving dudes! And dudes who like good movies. I'm feeling such a surge of Tim Minear love right now.

I want to see this movie. Like, yesterday. Can somebody please produce it?

I wanted to ask, and forgot. Those of you on the flist who've read (...or are reading, seeing as it's not quite over yet) Martin's Song of Ice and Fire, who would you love to see cast in what parts if HBO does adapt it? I'm curious.

...maybe Miranda Otto for Cersei, I'd be curious to see if she can pull her off. Tyrion would have to be either Michael J. Anderson or Peter Dinklage. Nobody is striking me as right for Jaime just yet but if they miscast him I will SCREAM. Oh, and the Hound, they need to cast him right. Orly for the Knight of Flowers! That's all I have right now. I need to track down physical descriptions and make with the thinking. ...after my exams.

Edit: because I like this meme, although I probably won't get around to answering any requests until after Wednesday. Gakked from [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63.

Give me one of my own stories, and a timestamp sometime in the future after the end of the story, or sometime in the past before the story started, and I'll write you at least a hundred words of what happened then, whether it's five minutes before the story started or ten years in the future.

I actually truly enjoyed the Christmas special. I thought it was well written, David was as excellent as ever, and they emphasised the horror that came with being the Doctor, which is all I could ask for. The bride even grew on me; Catherine Tate was excellent, too. It almost made me wish she would be his companion.

Now, I was just wondering if I ought to get this meme going again, because I'd loved doing it last time round, when it popped up on the flist. So, gakked from [livejournal.com profile] spritter: Leave a list of fictional characters in your journal that you would love to get a message from. It is your friend-list's mission, should they choose to accept it, to write you an in-character "letter" from a character on that list.

Please humour me, and post this meme on your own journals! )

Thanks in advance. (Yes so I keep changing the list because I can't make up my bleedin' mind. Ssshhhh.)

Gakked from [livejournal.com profile] jade_plume: the Five Things Ficlet Request Meme!

You post a topic, list, category, whatever, in my comments section (examples: "5 Reasons Jayne Loves River" or "5 books that Bree Van de Kamp can read and read again forever " or "5 Pickup Lines That Worked for Sawyer"). Then, I'll post the answers to all your Top 5 ideas, according to me. Serious or fun! Then you post this offer in your own journal, if the mood takes you.

The fandoms I'll write about:

1. Firefly
2. Doctor Who (not old school, sorry, don't know it well enough - unless it's Turlough related, have at it and I'll do my best)
3. A Knight's Tale
4. BtVS/Angel
5. The Lord of the Rings
6. Pirates of the Caribbean
7. Good Omens
8. Lost
9. Alias
10. Carnivàle
11. Shakespeare in Love
12. Boy Meets Boy
13. Queer As Folk UK
14. Rent
15. Profit
(And OP if you girls want! I'll even write it in French! ;) )

EDIT: Add The Authority to that list. If anybody's interested. I wanna try!

Come on, people. Wake up my muses!

And now, this meme - please guys, do it! Yes, I'm begging, because I'd love to see what you all come up with, even those of you who don't usually write fanfiction. (Especially those of you not versed in writing much?) Pretty please with the character of your choice on top? I'm listing a whole bunch of characters (as in, thirty) so you can really take your pick. No excuses, guys! There's bound to be one that appeals to you.

Leave a list of fictional characters in your journal that you would love to get a message from. It is your friend-list's mission, should they choose to accept it, to write you an in-character "letter" from a character on that list. Then they post their own list in their journal and the process continues!

The list! )

I should be ranting about Lost (Eko! Jack! Sawyer!), The L-Word (OMG ALAN CUMMING! And Keram Malicki-Sanchez!) and Veronica Mars, instead I let myself get distracted by memes. I'm bad. Very.

It's snowed! The garden is all white! ...and of course I'm going back to Paris, which means muddy snow (there's a word for it, I know there is... slug? slush? yes, slush) at best. Would it really have killed the weather gods to have it snow a couple days earlier, so we did get a white Christmas for once? *pouts*

Am catching the 2:50 train back to Paris, during which I shall not watch the Christmas Invasion, as I'm waiting for Joey, which is a big damn proof of my love really. I might watch some more Rome (rant upcoming), or that CSI:NY episode I downloaded because James Badge Dale is in it and I missed him in 24 Day Four, or write those drabbles I've promised people. Which, let's recap: one Harry/Remus (squick!! but shall do my best), one Vaughn/Sark (what is it with people asking me for slash? and not even of the pairings I actually ship? I write het and gen too, people!), and one Simon/Mal. Add to that the Chaucer ficlet I still owe [livejournal.com profile] the_grynne (no, I haven't forgotten!). Anything else? Come on, guys. Prompt me on more obscure, less written-about fandoms too, will you? Or tertiary characters you barely see in the big fandoms. Blaise Zabini and Dean Thomas deserve their drabble! Glorfindel! Scott Hope! Or, you know, whoever else. I feel like exploring things for the most part unexplored so far.

Finally, let's rant about Rome. This show rocks. And it's so crude at times. And there is much Puresex nudity. (James Purefoy, guys. Do you still not know who he is? I feel for you.) And it's just - well, it's an HBO show. Some of those characters are just... kudos to Octavian (played by Lord Blakeney, the kid that loses an arm in Master & Commander?), who is chillingly sensible and I heart him so very badly. Mark Anthony (Puresex) I obviously love, and not just because of James - he's everything I love. A warrior that enjoys good life, good shags, good food, good wine, and whose honour is the most unseizable thing - does he or doesn't he have any? You'd say not, until someone assumes he doesn't, and then he does the honourable thing - just out of contradiction? Who knows. *loveslovesloves* And, of course, my favourites, Titus Pullo and Lucius Vorenus. The best male friendship portrayed on screen ever, and it's so ripe for slashing except I don't even want to because they're just so. Good. Just the way they are. And Titus keeps breaking my heart lately, who'd have thought! Also, Brutus. For some reason I adore Brutus. And Attia is rather fascinating, although I'm incredibly glad she isn't my mother. I wonder whether we will see more of Cleopatra, too, which I dearly hope, especially since she has had no scene with Mark Anthony just yet.

Also, there are some very attractive men and incredibly beautiful women on this show. The way they shoot those bodies... good camera work. And sex work. You know.

Let's finish up with some Titus-and-Lucius goodness:

Titus, when Lucius asks him for advice on how to make his wife love him: When you couple with her, there's a spot just above her cunny, it's like a little button. Now... attend to that button, and she will open up, like a flower.
Lucius: ...how do you know this about her?
Titus: All woman have them! Ask anyone!

...but still couldn't be bothered to friend my NaNo journal? I'm done! Phew. It was tough on the end, but I did it.

That said - I'm not actually done. I've covered the expected 50,000 words, but the story is not over and I mean to finish this novel. And then edit it and post it, probably on [livejournal.com profile] nano_fan so as not to flood this LJ with it. I don't think I've ever mentioned what it would be about on this LJ, so for you Browncoats, one word: Operative. The one and only (except he really isn't). The story will demand much editing before it's readable, but I'm really hoping to get it done quickly, hopefully by mid-December. I want to feel like I truly achieved something, here.

On this note, good night all!

So, well, yeah. Three episodes ago, Rescue Me made me cry. Two episodes ago, quite frankly, I didn't get that much into it. One episode ago, it gripped my heart. And tonight, the finale dug its nails into it.

Rescue Me finale rant... )...followed by a rant on the fashion that is gayness in today's fictions. )

And to conclude this rant with something I'm not sure fits with any of the points I was making, guys, go check out the trailer for "Hellbent." I swear. You need to. A gay horror flick. It's bound to be fun - either because it's really bad, or because it's really good at not taking itself seriously. Cheesy gay films can just be so much fun.

Ok, so due to the absolute non-existence of Smooth-Sailing-style-related tutorials and stuff, I'll just hold my peace and be sad. But, concerning this one here (3 columns, btw) - anyone knows how to put icons in the sidebar? Everybody's doing it and dammit, I want in on that! I tried cheating LJ into letting me do that through the links list, but it wouldn't be cheated. -> grumbles

For other news, I completely blame [livejournal.com profile] twixou but I started writing Alias/Lost. *nods* And not even the Lauren/Jack I had in mind, but instead the Plot That Must Have Been Done A Few Thousand Times By Now of "Sark and Sydney are on a plane that crashes on the island." I'll probably never finish it because, well, I don't have a clue where I'm going with it, and what point it has besides having our pretty kick-ass spies interact with the survivors of the Oceanic flight, and possibly getting our pretty kick-ass spies to maybe share a bit of smut and hot jungle sex. Because I'm a Sarkney whore that way.

That said, I'm not letting go of the idea of a much more serious (as in "pointy") Jack/Lauren. Because she has wounds that need healing but she won't let anyone tend to, and he needs to heal wounds to ignore his own and such a story will be quite full of angst, just as I love it, and ties built on angst but that have a chance at achieving something positive, well, they fascinate me. This has the potential for a good story, yes it does, and one day I'll get to it instead of indulging Alexia's and my urges to see Syd and Sark interact with the inhabitants of Craphole Island.

Also, I'll get to my ficathons soon. Can someone give me a good kick in the butt so I get started? Eeeep!

And FYI, BR people - [livejournal.com profile] pee_wai has got here! Yay! Tomorrow will be Serenity!

My bro's watching Kill Bill (vol. 1) in the same room I'm in, in case you were wondering about the title. I don't know when my lust for Lucy Liu disappeared... probably when I saw Charlie's Angels and decided that Drew was much more to my taste. Still, Lucy's lovely-looking, and she's got style. I really don't like that volume overly much, all my love goes to the second one (despite the lack of Lucy, but Michael more than makes up for it).

Am very frustrated right now, because I've made buttloads of icons and LJ won't let me upload any! Dammit, I wanted to use my shiny new "sexy scotman" Billy Boyd icon. Am very much not frustrated with my Twins story though, since I finally followed up on one of my feelings, and I do believe it was the right one. Now I know why I was stuck and kept writing and rewriting and working and reworking the beginning of my story: because it's not the story that I should tell first. Have now started working on the real first book of that universe, and I feel much better about the whole thing. It will make the writing of the second book much easier, it will be a much better introduction into this world of mine, both for myself and the readers (huh), and I just can't wait to tell that story, too. I've got the big outline, now I need to think of the details and get to the writing! I know this must all sound cryptic and so very vague to y'all, but I needed to share the revelation. Writing that first scene felt good. I hope it works, though.

All right, many things to rant about. First of all, we've just seen Shaun of the Dead, and it ROCKS. Not being a zombie movie fan or anything, the references pretty much went over my head, but it was still incredibly funny. And so very English. I love English films.

Still in the movies area, UGC invited us to a screentest. We didn't know which film we were gonna see, and we'd have to give our opinion on it. So we went, and saw Merry Christmas, a film that happens during WWI. But it's not your regular war movie. )

Now, any of you actually cares about what I think of Rescue Me's latest episode? Among other things, I can't help loving Sean. )

Also, [livejournal.com profile] greenie_breizh and I watched the pilot of House MD. I adore Hugh Laurie, and seeing Robert Sean Leonard was a very good surprise. So was Lisa Edelstein. I adore Lisa Edelstein. But mostly, I love the character of House. He's fascinating. His scene with Allison, at the end, about why he hired her? Brilliant. I'll download more next week. Yay!

And, last but not least, Berserk. No, ok, I won't rant about it. Because that would take hours. I'll just say that my brother was so very right when he told me I'd like it - I'd just told him the reason why I liked so much the few episodes of Samurai Champloo I'd seen was because of the brilliant characters, and he was like, you want good characterisation? Try Berserk. )

I love the International trailer for Serenity!

Also, incidentally...

I have it!!!

"It" is, of course, Harry Potter. Will be off to read it very shortly, but first, you guys have about half a day to order drabbles out of me. I will be internetless until a week on Monday, so I'll be free to drabble away. (Well, drabbles or vignettes or ficlets or whatever I'll come up with.) So go on. Give me any specifications you want and I'll try and make y'all happy. Any fandom you know I like is fair game. Please? I need to get my creative juices going. (Bonus points for anyone who asks for DW stuff. I need to try my hand at some DW. I signed up for the Jack ficathon, btw!)

So come on, people, start asking.

The Fête de la Musique in Paris? Highly overrated. We started off by listening to a really nice rock band, Entité, then had some dinner, and then by the time we got to Saint Paul? It was all dead. I don't know what was wrong with tonight, but this was so disappointing. Tonight is supposed to be about lots of different bands, different styles, crammed together in a neighbourhood (or a good many neighbourhoods in Paris, granted), and everyone is supposed to be happy and in a celebratory mood, and sometimes it's even hard to hear one band 'cause the others are playing too loud, etc. I really missed the Fanfare de Médecine de Reims tonight, and the Place d'Erlon with all those bands, or even Nancy's town centre. I should have got some info on where to catch some capoeira too, that was me being stupid, what with their being all focused on Brazil this year... Anyway. Very disappointing all over.

That being said, Spoilers for the Doctor Who finale! )

I've worked some more on SCDM (aka Sarkney), other than that, and suddenly remembered I also had my Firefly/Highlander/Carnivale crossover to work on. Long projects are just far too demanding... but so much more rewarding when you do get them done.

Also, Bad Wolf (aka the second but last episode of Dr Who for this season) was brilliant! And I still love Captain Jack. I'm getting so very sad in advance about Nine leaving, though. And for those of you who are puzzled about how I can like that show, here's an article that explains my feelings really well. And here's a little thing Russel wrote, in which he endears himself to me even more and, incidentally, thanks Buffy. I swear. Go read! I love him.

Russel? I love you. In a completely platonic way. And I never would have set your testicles on fire, as some die-hard fans have been threatening you with.

So. [livejournal.com profile] greenie_breizh and I just watched Chasing Amy, as the quote right here might have hinted. When we saw the last goodbye scenes, I could not help but once again notice that I was more touched by the bit with Banky than the bit with Alyssa, and it ties up quite well with stuff I've been wondering about lately, due to a couple of discussions that were going on on [livejournal.com profile] cgwriting's and [livejournal.com profile] khohen1's LJs regarding slash.

I've always felt more at ease writing male characters than female, for some reason. They just come to me much more easily. Quite in the same way, there is something about well-written slash that is so very interesting. Something in a bond between two men, instead of being between two women or a woman and a man, is much more interesting to me. It seems to resonate within me much more. And I just have to wonder why that is. My hypothesis is, that it's because a male-male bond (should it be love or friendship or what-not, this goes beyond slash actually) is something that I cannot by definition experience. Hence being more interested in it.

[livejournal.com profile] greenie_breizh remarked that another factor might be how unconventional male-male relationships are - even friendship, says she. It might play a role, but I remain to be convinced. I think the "unknown" factor plays much more in it. But I wonder whether there's anything else in it. Or maybe it is that women are on the whole less well written than men - with some wonderful exceptions of course! Far from me to think that women are not beautifully portrayed on a daily basis... but maybe they're still, on the whole, given less thought than men.

But then where does my difficulty writing them come from? It's not that I can't - it's that I find less pleasure, less interest, less challenge in it. Is this it then? A challenge thing? Or are they on the contrary more difficult to write because they are too close to me and I can't step back enough? I just don't know.

Have you noticed how my thoughts are going in circles and not getting anywhere? People, I need your input here. What are your thoughts? How do *you* view slash? What are *you* more interested in reading, and why do you think that is? Can you suggest any reason why interaction between men is so very interesting to me? Anything is welcome.

Very slightly related: I watched The Doctor Dances. Which was a brilliant episode. So [livejournal.com profile] the_swordman, did you mean "Captain Jack" when you were telling me of Doctor Who and the first male bisexual character on British telly (though so far, he hasn't said he is bisexual, it's just the Doctor making assumptions)? (And might I point out the irony of Rose calling him Captain Jack... especially for those of us who have loved [livejournal.com profile] firesignwriter's Moonverse series.)

I'm back!

Just to let you all know that I arrived safely and I'm looking forward to seeing or chatting with you all. How've you all been? I'm not going to be reading all your entries I missed, so if something of importance happened in your life that you think I should know, or would just like to know, please comment and tell me! As much as I enjoyed this year abroad (a whole bloody lot), being cut off from you has definitely been the main downside.

For those of you whose work I love... I don't expect to be catching up on all the fanfiction I've missed too quickly, but you will eventually get feedback. I'm planning an update of NLF soon with new icons and wallpapers, but I don't think there's any new fic on the menu. I'm still working on the Sarkney fic among other things, but my muses are a bit too passive these days and nothing good comes out of them.

Also, let me just say a quick word about how frustrating and depressing it was to follow the post-result frenzy on the radio. This sucks.

My Serenity pics are crap, but my CoRo rock, by the way! I do love Adam something fierce. And after watching the Lost finale, spoilerfree, I heart Sawyer, Mike and Jin. And Sayid, always and forever, so that's nothing new.

Hope to catch up with you all dead soon!

Rejoice!

My muses have come back to me. Or, really, not, but I've hunted them down, dragged them back and forced them to get started on my Yusuf storyette. Storyette, yes, it doesn't deserve much better of a name.

Also, I've received my dvds of The Reckoning and North and South. The Reckoning is quite good, mostly because I love the actors so much (Paul Bettany and Matthew McFaddyen are especially good, with Willem Dafoe and Vincent Cassel among the other great actors). And, for the bit of fun: I'm incredibly happy they got Vincent to play their lord, but how did a Normand lord in England in the 14th century manage to get a bit of an American accent? Because, while sounding most definitely French, Vincent has an undercurrent of American to his English. Fun.

Sometimes a few pupils make up for the rest of them. The other day I was asking one "et quelle est ta matiere preferee ?" and she sweetly replied: "j'adore le francais parce que je peux parler avec Marie" (in case you don't know, Marie is me, the Woman of Many Names). Which is absolutely lovely, not only because of *what* she said, but also because she managed to say it perfectly without help! And for a year 10, it's good. Some year 11 aren't capable of saying "je m'appelle", so really... And then in another class some of my older pupils realised I was going quite soon and went all puppy-eyed. It just makes you feel good about the job you're doing. 'Cause after some classes you feel so damned useless.

I've been unable to produce anything this weekend. I was so enthusiastic about writing something, and it just would not come. Not anything. So I reworked Tapping (no, I'm not giving up on it, but I am however going to make some radical changes to make certain Willow is as far from Sue as possible, and get a better sort of plot overall) and started rereading [livejournal.com profile] cgwriting's very good Without. I'm enjoying it even more than I did previously, and it's good to get a Haldir fix now and then. Cinnie, it's been a while since I last told you: you rock, honey. Your writing is so very enjoyable, and such a welcome relief from the mass of insipid fanfiction one can find out there. Thank you for sharing all your stories with us.

So, if I did not spend it writing, what did I do with my weekend? Julia and I went downtown on Saturday to buy Leticia's birthday gifts (Lety is the Spanish assistant here), and I bought lots of clothes in TK Max (sp?). Which is bad, but feels so very good. On Sunday the boys cooked us an absolutely wonderful meal, with duck and oven potatoes, and we opened my last bottle of red wine. A true Sunday lunch. (Feel free to imagine the goofy smile on my face.)

By the way, my co-Serenity-attendants, I had - is it Sean? - on the phone, and it turned out they had lost all my details. So I gave them again and he said the tickets would be mailed to me first thing today, and he apologised for it all. The point is: the tickets are on their way. And Fred? I can't wait for CoRo!

Now if only my muses would come back from wherever they spent the weekend...
