"Serenity Forever."

It was just the name of a con.

Now it's an affirmation, in more ways than just the one related to the movie/ship. I will remember this con forever.

I don't think I've ever come out of a con feeling quite this good about myself, and the world. Because our community rocks. Because we are such an awesome bunch of geeks Joss Whedon can show up to party with us and not be bothered or cause a riot. Because you can strike up a conversation with any other attendee and make new friends and it's all good. Because I spent over three days speaking nothing but English and good gods, I miss that. Because we're all just as fucking crazy and because we don't judge.

Apart from you, annoying person that spoiled the end of S2 of Continuum for me. You I judge a little because come on! You don't spoil like that! Basic geek rules!

I got some disappointing news while at the con, but there could have been no better environment to receive them. (It was nothing horrible, just disappointing.) And not just because "But Joss Whedon!" but also because of the people around me and the fact that you can't really emo with them around. There is too much fun to be had.

But I originally wanted to write my Joss story here, so I should probably get back to that. )

I love geeks.

Serenity FOREVER, dudes.

- grooving along with Rorschach
- seeing Gaius Baltar do con dances
- seeing the Joker do con dances
- seeing Katee Sackhoff come out of the stall next to yours and striking up a conversation about Christmas shopping with her while washing your hands
- being taught how to sign "fancy a shag?" in British Sign Language by Michelle Forbes
- suddenly finding Neil Roberts dancing right next to you on Doctor Who
- discovering that James Callis' mind is quite as filthy as Neil's, and that he uses such words... schismatic, canopy, voracious, and what was it, buscan?

More generally, BattleStarFury was quite simply amazing. Stephanie Jacobsen couldn't make it... so we got Katee Sackhoff instead! Seriously. The crowd went insane when she walked on stage. Mark Sheppard was also here, much less of a surprise, and Neil guest-MCed for the fancy dress on Saturday. And came danced with us. Jennifer Haley was such a good surprise, wonderful and hilarious.

And of course, the attendees. I LOVE YOU ALL GUYS. Everybody I already knew and loved, and everybody I've met this time round. There's nothing quite like so many geeks coming together. I'm so thankful that the next con is in April because I want to be there already! Four months is not too horribly long to wait. And I've never been to Birmingham. And Zachary Levi, people. And hopefully as many of you as possible.

Heeee!

I came back sick as a dog. Coughing so much, as in so, so much. Sore all over. The whole shazaam. I'm miserable now but it was such a good weekend. Thank you so much to all of you that were a part of it.

I forgot to say! I got my Battlestar Starfury ticket in the mail the other day. YAY! Can't wait. Although the party themes are not that fun. Woe. But I don't care! Woohoo convention!

This is my first LJ post from work. I am now once more part of those people who update from their workplace! Woot! (Workplace sounds better than internshipplace, doesn't it.)

Also, I want the next Who. Still. Rather desperately.

x JAMIE WAS HERE. He finished shooting, got in a car, went to the airport and got in a plane to Heathrow. Wtf. Jamie, I love you so much. Not only is he amazingly hot, but he also speaks perfect French (and is terribly modest about it) and is an absolute sweetheart.

x Mark finally spoke a few words of French to me. After how many cons? It was worth the wait. For the cute.

x New convention songs were learned! Woot! Who'd have thought there were still more we hadn't encountered. And one was created - on Ghostbusters, I kid you not.

x I'm sorry, I just don't like Adam. I tried, but I don't. Please don't stone me.

x I'm so going to Battlestar Starfury, which I maintain should be called BattleStarFury. James Callis has been announced (oh, my god) and Michelle Forbes who was there and is amazing and hot and awesome and strong minded and hilarious and I love her. (Cain was not a bitch.)

x The final line-up: Jim Swallow, Leah Cairns, Nikki Clyne, Kandyse McClure, Morgan Sheppard, Mark Sheppard, Richard Brooks, Michelle Forbes, Ron Glass, Adam Baldwin, and Jamie who arrived on Saturday night. WOOT.

x Richard sang again. Woot! It's so odd to remember how shy he was when he arrived at Infinity, and now he's so at ease with us, it's a pleasure.

x Jamie Jamie Jamie.

x I took no pictures. I tried, but my camera's shit and I was too far away.

x Ron's laugh. 'Nuff said.

x The girls are so cute. Kandyse and Leah will tell you loads about poo, too.

x Ron got emotional at the closing ceremony. I love him.

x Convention blues is hitting big time. I had another party in me, I could've done with dancing and very little sleep for one more night. Gladly.

x Thank you so much everybody that was here and made it so special, old and new friends alike. Not gonna name names, you know who you are. Thank you so, so much.

Dudes, I almost packed everything into my bag but my actual con ticket. Which I know doesn't matter all that much as they've got my name and everything, but still. Way to go, me.

TOMORROW IS MY LAST EXAM AND SERENITY COMPLETE WOOHOO!

Is it still pirates night tomorrow night? I don't think I'm going to be doing this one. Gasp, yes. But I've got Jayne and Bollywood ready! (How long has it been since I last danced? Way too bloody long is how long. Probably New Year's Eve. I can't wait.)

I really should go to bed so I'm not totally exhausted for my exam tomorrow. Especially given the exam that it is. Which means I'm dropping off the internet radar until Monday, folks! Possibly Tuesday. I shall miss you all, but I promise to come back with a lot of anecdotes to share! Mwah!

So, you know, I was getting very excited over Summer being at Complete because lotsofsarahconnorchroniclesquestionsomg. Then she cancelled.

And then I was all happy at the thought of seeing Jamie Bamber because, well, do I need to list the reasons? I didn't think so. Then he cancelled.

So I was consoling myself with Alan, who is my first convention love and always will be and he owns a little piece of me and. Then he cancelled.

But Adam Baldwin is still on. How is that justice?

I'm back to looking forward to a convention for my fellow attendees more than for the guests. Group hug, guys?

I'm back! After staying for a week (ish) at [livejournal.com profile] queenspanky and going to Serenity Infinity. I love conventions, god. So hard. And Lizzie was wonderful and perfect and kept feeding me really good meals she insisted were really nothing (because she's English, it's what they do - not the good food, the understatement stuff) and I've mentioned her cat before, but he's really perfect.

I've come home to find that my English flatmate, due to a flood in his room, is now sleeping on the living room sofa. Which means that all that separates us when we're both home is the drapes dividing my room from the rest of the lounge. Oh yay.

Anyway! Convention news. I didn't take notes as I usually do because... well, just because. But! Things to remember. Because I'm probably about to ramble. )

So yeah, it's all over LJ but I need to have my own mini-ramble about it because seriously. People will have said it much more eloquently than me, I'm not even gonna aim for eloquent, I just need to profess my love for my fandom.

For those who still had any doubts, I hope this weekend settled the fact that the Firefly fandom is absolutely the best fandom of all times. I feel so much love for everybody involved. So. Much. Love. Including Clare Kramer. A special mention also goes to Jonny Woodward, who seems to have been instrumental in the last minute plans. Our captain was our captain, Alan came despite an early flight to go shoot on the Saturday, Michael Muhney showed up just because he didn't want the fans disappointed and he's not even a Firefly guy how much do I love this guy, Michael Fairman showed up which makes me so happy because that means he absolutely meant what he told us at Serenity Cubed and we love you too Michael, Christina brought her date along (it was their first date!), Mark generally rocks ("why wouldn't I come?") as does Adam who stepped by on Thursday to cheer up the crowds, Tim showed up yesterday, Morena wasn't scheduled either but she came by, the Feldman twins were there too, I know I must be forgetting people but come on who can blame me so many people showed up!

And let's also cheer for the SoCal Browncoats who helped organise everything that made this weekend into the wonderful success that BE seemed intent it wouldn't be, as well as the Browncoats who weren't attending Flan but donated so much to help throw this impromptu Backup Browncoat Bash. I love my fandom, I love the people in it, I love you all. They can't take the sky from us.

Serenity Cubed report!

And let me warn you now, this is going to be a Con Report of Doooooom. I took so many notes during panels, because I like to spread the love, and this is going to be entirely too detailed and extremely long but who cares! Spreading the love, sharing the love, yay! I'm actually going to make several posts about it, this being the sort of general summary of things.

First off, a nod to [livejournal.com profile] grimma, [livejournal.com profile] cerulean_blu, and [livejournal.com profile] thewatch, as well as obviously [livejournal.com profile] the_swordman and [livejournal.com profile] greenie_breizh, who were all a big part of how much this weekend rocked. Thank you, guys. Also, [livejournal.com profile] meivocis and [livejournal.com profile] honeyfitz, it was so nice to finally meet you, even though we didn't talk half as much as we should have. (It can probably partly be blamed on me not being willing to leave the dancefloor. Mea culpa.)

The complementary pictures coming with this report will be put up in [livejournal.com profile] greenie_breizh's LJ. I'll post a link here when they're up.

Now, about the con? Sean is lovely. I'm still not hot for him like the rest of the 'verse is, but he's adorable and so cute and is learning French and has the greatest smile and possibly a crush on my girlfriend. If he isn't gay. Jewel is as she's always been, cute and perky and funny and bitchy in a loving manner and I love her. Morena was possibly even more beautiful than before, absolutely gorgeous and just as wonderful as ever. I adore Mark Sheppard, and he has some stories to tell and he's really lived and his family's adorable and I want to go have a drink with him, just to chat. I'm crushing on Gigi as much as ever, she is gorgeous and a firestarter and I wanna party with her until the sun comes up.

As for the surprise guests - Nectar "Lovebot" Rose was very funny and sweet and, yeah, not just a blonde bimbo, great sense of humour. Christina "Saffron" Hendricks was amazingly beautiful and she gets on great with them all, it's lovely to watch. And the biggest surprise of them all, Michael "Niska" Fairman, who was absolutely amazing in ways I cannot even begin to sum up. I want to have long evening conversations around coffee with this man.

The Browncoats were brilliant, the guests enjoyed themselves, the parties rocked and I love convention songs. I can't, actually, sum this up adequately. But I've definitely tried to not sum this up in the upcoming con report. It's incredibly long, and detailed, I scribbled down so many things in and outside of the talks, and you'll probably skip over most of it. Some bits are interesting and/or funny to any and all, others mostly are "had to be there" moments which I'm writing down just for when I want to go reread this later, and reminisce. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy it one way or another, and I'll give you a shoutout when Joey posts her wonderful pictures.

Let it just be known that writing this out has made me full of love with the whole world (with a few exceptions). I love you all, flist. And I don't just mean the Browncoats. *LOVES*

PS: that doesn't mean I'm going to manage to catch up with everything I missed this weekend, ye be warned. Did I mention that sis is coming over until Friday? Yeah.

PS2: OI! It be International Talk Like a Pirate Day! Ye'll have ter pardon me fer not writin' the report in pirate talk. Ye band of landlubbers wouldn'ta understood me, I'll wager.

Tomorrow, Serenity Cubed!

Yeeeha!

Sean and Jewel and Morena and Mark and Gigi! And surprise guests! I should stop hoping!

Things to do before then:
1) decide what I'm wearing for the meet and greet. (Rawr.)
2) go get my hair cut. Either I'll look brilliant or horrible for tomorrow! Double up or nothing yay! I love that hairdresser. Scalp massage mmmmmmmm plus he always makes me look good.
3) stop hoping Alan will show up. Seriously.
4) keep hoping that Jonny will.
5) SLEEP.
6) pack. As much as can be done right now, anyway.
7) stop coughing.
8) figure out how to use Joey's camera.
9) track down MIB on YouTube and relearn the choregraphy. So what if I just learned the dance on my own in my flat. The things I wouldn't do for a con.
10) SLEEP.

I'm not taking my laptop with me. I'll be incommunicado until Monday when we get back. Sorry for you guys I'm in threads with, and [livejournal.com profile] emma_daisy, I don't care if sis is visiting next week we need to start a new thread when I get back. I will beg you on my knees if I have to.

Yeah, by the way, sis is visiting next week! Yay! Joey and I were watching Friends the other day and there was Monica and Ross's routine and I realised that ten years from now sis and I would still be doing the Knight dance and look ridiculous and have fun doing it. At least we won't be under the delusion that we're any good! And we totally dance better than them.

Aaaand I'm rambling. The point is: I'm off until Monday, and I'll miss you all, but there will be BDH, Gigi Edgley who I've crushed on ever since I first saw Chiana, and some of you, flist, which fills me with so. much. glee!

1. Snakes on a Plane? I genuinely enjoyed myself. I'm wondering if I should feel ashamed about that.
2. After rewatching The Modern Prometheus, I'm convinced that it's Adrian Paul that has a thing for the goat. He is, after all, the director of the episode. Byron... *sobs*
3. Does anybody read the Authority? Anybody that's interested in online RPing? Because we've got the Midnighter and Jenny Quantum already, and we'd love an Apollo to complete the family. Or anybody at all from the Authority. We're not desperate for more Authority fans, we just love those guys that hard. The World Hero Network: comic book heroes unite!
4. Serenity Cubed minus 12! God! And they still haven't announced the party themes. What's up with that? Now, who do you think we'll get as a bonus? Both Nathan and Alan seem to be woefully unemployed right these days. I could also do with a Jonny or a Chris.
5. Jewel Staite is love.
6. Alan Tudyk has given me a neck fetish. (See icon!) I can't stop noticing Peter Wingfield's.
7. I've been reading the flist pretty assiduously for the past few days. I think I'm back!
8. I wish I could do something for Joey's throat, damnit. Anybody has any miracle cure for Sore Throats From Hell?

So. Lively day today.

I get woken up by Joey brandishing an envelope under my nose. "Can you open it 'cause it's addressed to you but I think it's from England and it's the con tickets?" Indeed, people. We have our Serenity Cubed tickets! 137, 138, and 139 are us. Into the meet-and-greet. Feel free to celebrate! And burn a candle, say a little prayer, for either Nathan, Alan, Jonny or Chris to make it to that con. Otherwise I will be Very Put Out. (In semi-related news, Jewel updated her blog, and I want to be her best friend. Possibly Joey is planning to stalk her when she gets to Vancouver.)

Then started the long fight against the Evil Tap From Hell. Which was dripping, and needed to be changed, and tough plastic bits had to be sawed off with a kitchen knife. Let me tell you how much fun that was, not.

Then I hoped that we might lose at football, and lo and behold, [livejournal.com profile] rwrockdj! It worked, and we won. I'm fucking ecstatic. Note the sarcasm. I did not want to have to go through one more game. I'm so rooting for Italy, if only on principle. ...I think I was rooting for Brazil in '98. I should probably start rooting for France right now, but I just can't. It's beyond me. There were loud cheers and horns and cries and all the rest of it in the neighbourhood. It was echoing the telly all the time. Seriously. I, on the other hand, ended up yelling at the Portuguese that they could've tried a little harder, even though I hadn't watched the game.

So, the Evil Tap From Hell was finally replaced, and I put my hands down some seriously disgusting pipes (and I mean seriously disgusting) to connect it all back up, and I turned it on to wash my hands and, wait for it. The love of my life, sun of my days, moon of my nights, the sugar in my morning coffee and the curry in my chicken, the lime to go with my tequila, the tide to my sea and the polish to my nails, had actually hooked up cold with hot and hot with cold and it's all backwards. We've got a brilliant tap which is going to keep surprising people. And by surprising I mean burning them when they were expecting cold water and get scalding hot instead.

Possibly I'm making her change those around tomorrow.

Right! Pictures, pictures, pictures. I created myself a Flickr account for the occasion, and uploaded quite a few pictures from the signings (Alan, Ron, Tony and Mira) and some from the Firefly/Serenity talk (Alan and Ron, obviously). Some were taken by Elisa, some by me, but I'm not sure which. If they look brilliant, they're very likely hers. If they focus on some weird part of Alan's body, they're probably mine.

And under the cut, a few of my personal favourites. )
fan_elune: (alan neck)
Ahem.

So, I'm back. And I took notes, because I love you all and wanted to share the Alan and Ron goodness. So you'll find in this post, in the middle of all the fangirly usual stuff, a report of the Sunday talk.

Pictures will come in a few days' time to illustrate everything. For the moment, no time to upload them all.

Friday, The Day of OMG*flails* )

Saturday, the Day of Much Staring. )

Sunday, the Day of Big Damn Love. )

Monday, the Day of It-Was-A-Great-Weekend-Why-Must-It-Come-To-An-End. )

I took pictures of several other guests - Ian wasn't there, [livejournal.com profile] twixou, terribly sorry darling! And there is much more to be said about what we did/watched/did while we watched, but I'll keep almost everything for a friends-locked post later. There's only one more thing that ought to be made public, really, and that is...

Ladies and you menfolk, I give you the A Knight's Tale drinking game! )
fan_elune: (wat geoff torso)
Just a quick entry because I'm officially giving up catching up on the flist. I'm only at 75, but I know if I wanted to I'd be aiming at over 200, possibly 300, and I need to go to the bank to get pounds for this weekend (OMG ALAN AND RON AND TONY AND SO MANY OTHERS AND LUCY AND WHO AND ELISA AND POSSIBLY ROSIE AND TESS I CAN'T WAIT), I'm more than ever convinced that the Brits refused to switch to the euro just to make my life hell, and I should also prepare my class for this afternoon. ...and try to remember if I'm due there at 5 or 5:30, oh god.

Who says I'm disorganised?

Anyway. The point is: you posted something important? Please link me to it. What's going in your lives, flist? I want to know, I just don't have the time to find out.

And very quickly just because: green is not his colour but oh boy does he have nothing to be ashamed of body-wise honesly. (Those of you who regularly check out [livejournal.com profile] tudyk_daily will know what I'm talking about.)

Now I need to stop staring and get to the LESSON-PREPARING. Hell.

Oh, and very quickly, about Who: I don't have as many issues with this episode as others seem to have, nor am I OMGBRILLIANTing as much as others. But I'm very much looking forward to what is being set re TW vs the Doctor. And that's as cryptic as I can make it, that's what you get when I'm too lazy to use an lj-cut. What did get me OMGing, though: glasses! accent! knowledge is a weapon Russel is such a Buffy fan yay!!

That's it.

Yes, we survived Serenity, hard though it was to withstand the sight of all those amazing guests together. Let me just run through them: the shiny Nathan Fillion, the lovely Jewel Staite, the ever so shy Summer Glau, the hilarious Alan Tudyk, the so very handsome Ron Glass, the lovely Morena Baccarin, the browncoat Mark Sheppard and the best surprise of all, Chris Buchanan.

What do you mean, who?

Chris used to be the president of Mutant Enemy, Joss's production company. He was also one of the producers of Firefly and is the executive producer of Serenity. And he happens to be a great guy. No, seriously. He's funny, interesting, friendly, passionate, and, point of interest, rather handsome.

Anyway. Before you go on, do know that the level of spoilers for Serenity in the upcoming rant will be equal to that in the trailer. You're warned. Read everything about this shiny, shiny weekend. )
