My fanfiction's first sentences are either 1) very short, concise sentences that say a great deal (and are often in themselves the reason why I wrote these fics, the very inspiration behind them), 2) longer, but very strongly structured, with repetitions and something very cohesive, or 3) in medias res, plunging you straight in the action. My first desire is always to suck readers in.
Incidentally, I write a lot of crossovers.
