I got a tattoo on my lower back. The skin is thin there too and there's a lot of bone :-). It hurt like hell for one hour, when the guy was doing it. At first I cried, silently, then those wonderful endorphines showed up and worked fine. It hurt, but somehow I wasn't gonna die. Afterwards it didn't hurt anymore. I think I put the cream on it for at least 8 weeks. It's funny, because at one time you'll lose the first layer of your "burnt" skin, where the ink has been put, and if everything goes away at the same time, you'll get a skin-copy of your tattoo.
I like to hug too! But we don't do that here, even less in Alsace. You just do the cheek kiss, whereas down in Marseille there could be a hand on the shoulder. How does yours look like? I chose mine just because I found it beautiful; I don't know at all if it has a meaning...
