As much as I know, it's not the pilot of a serie (and hadn't mentionned it to you years ago when I watched it? I know I tried to get people to see it then). There is a manga, though, and it's not the same story, it's set at a different time period (and weirdly enough, I saw it again two days ago at someone's). I can't remember which one I liked best.
Edit: Oh... I made a quick search... It took them a bunch of years, but they are now producing a serie, it started airing on October 8, according from Wikipedia. It's called Blood+. For the moment, the translated manga might be a bit easier to find, though.
