Just out of my oral comprehension/translation exam. The oral comprehension was about a few people commenting on Bush's State of the Union Address. Gah. Did I need to be reminded of how much this guy is a jerk? Translations weren't too bad, though they really were harsh on us in version, with the narrator commenting on how objects always became feminine when her husband had trouble with them - that's typical of the English language. I translated it all the same - you cannot solve such a problem in just a few paragraphs of translation, you'd have to be working on the whole thing. Oh well. And, oh yeah - desperately tried to find a way to translate "golly" in French. I wrote "bon sang," which is one of the two options my dictionary is suggesting, so all good - expect I don't think it's quite right. But the other option doesn't suit me any better. They just don't hold the same connotations as "golly." As for theme, it went alright, I suppose. We'll see the results.

Now, as a friend said to cheer us up: le pire reste à venir. (The worst is yet to come.) Tomorrow will be grammar and sociolinguistics. Help!

Wow, grammar... :-/ I've never learned grammar, and now I understand *why* it's important... :p
But you, you learned it (you did right ? :p) so I'm sure you'll do good.
Just a quick english question : can we say "learned" ? Cause I think we can, like in "burnt/burned" but I'm not sure... :p

By the way, I saw the french movie about gay marriage. I almost called you that evening to tell you about this movie, but I thought "A movie, with a gay man falling in love with his straight best friend, and having sex with a lesbian, with strong gay marriage issue ? Nah, don't need to call her she's already watching it". :)

I'm... *learning.* As in - yeah. Hopefully I'll have learnt. It's boring sentence/phrases/constructions analysis, so complicated too. *sigh* Who cares about "relatives clivées" or "pseudo-clivées", frankly? Well, okay, linguists. Can I get a specialisation in literature already? ;)

And I think you can say both for learned/learnt.

And you know, it was totally chance that made me stumble upon that movie. I wanted to go and criticise some Smallville (and, I admit, was hoping to catch a glimpse of Ian), but then last week was the end of the season I suppose? And what a crappy end, too. It seems they can't do season finales well. Though really, it was worthy of the show. But I really am getting offtrack. Point is, I just wanted myself some Lex, Lionel and possibly Ian goodness, and there I find this totally French guy talking to the camera. And for some reason, he hadn't said a thing about it, but it was ever so clear to me that he was gay - my gaydar was on that night. So I watched it. But I was about to turn the telly off, if I hadn't got that gay vibe from him.
Point being: I am so not in the know on what's on when on French telly. Don't ever think that I am. ;)

I still haven't seen Ian in Smallville... Me sad. But, if you can, try to rent "Rules of attraction", with Ian and Dawson (the actor, but I forgot his name as usual ! :p). It was a pretty good movie, and Ian was very good in it and such a hottie. Dawson was good too, I even liked him ! :p
