The very annoying thing with watching old Who stuff on your own, is that you have no knowledgeable Who fan to ask about every single thing that goes through your mind.
I've watched the Eighth Doctor movie (even though "Paul McGann doesn't count," yes, he still does, ish, at least as an incarnation, doesn't he), and nowI'm getting started on Genesis of the Daleks and while okay, yes, Sarah Jane (Ten-voice: she's young!), who is Harry? ...or Henry? What did he call him?
And also oh dear god the Timelords have no fashion sense whatsoever, do they. The Doctor's whacky, and I particularly love Nine and Ten, but should it be the Master or that Timelord at the beginning of GotD? Guh.I can see why Russel wanted them out.
And I know I haven't updated in a few days but I'm fine, everything's great, Joey's off to Rennes for the weekend and I'm left here watching Four on my own nursing some pina colada. Which is actually not as depressing as it sounds, I swear.

And John Barrowman, too!

Date: 2006-06-09 08:58 pm (UTC)Harry Sullivan is an army medic who travels with the Doctor for a little bit. He's from UNIT (who you've met in the new series a bit and who the Doctor worked for when he was stuck on Earth for a while). Time Lord fashion sense sucks.
The Master rocks, by the way. He's a cheesy panto villain, OK, granted. But still, he rocks. And he was so the Doctor's boyfriend!
Any help? :)

Date: 2006-06-09 09:22 pm (UTC)Half human? It just gives me great pleasure to type "Paul McGann doesn't count," because each time it's Stuart and Vince saying it in my head.Right! yes! UNIT, I know about UNIT. And he did seem very useful for a Companion. ...for what little I've seen of him.
He probably does, but in the movie? Oh, boy. When he shows up all dressed up, it made me choke and go "could you be gayer?" So, um, yeah, boyfriends.
I'll be sure to ask if I wonder about anything else!

Date: 2006-06-09 11:34 pm (UTC)But if you want to see the Master at his coolest you should watch some Jon Pertwee - I recommend The Sea Devils - when the Master was played by the supercool Roger Delgado. Now there, he just rocks the world.

Date: 2006-06-09 09:51 pm (UTC)Does he never trip on his scarf and fall? Much as I love the style of the thing, it's also pretty damn unpractical.
And, also - why is Sarah Jane running around a battlefield in her bright yellow coat? I can't think of a colour that would be worse in drawing attention to herself.

Date: 2006-06-09 11:38 pm (UTC)As for yellow coats, high heels while running, etc - she's a companion, it's the seventies, and that's sort of how it is, sad to say. They always dressed the female companions in the most impractical gear! Remember Tegan in her miniskirt and high heels trying to run away from Daleks? (Sigh....) I like how Sarah has now learned and by School Reunion is in leather jacket, jeans and trainers.
You should see her costume in The Five Doctors though. *Eugh!*

Date: 2006-06-13 11:27 pm (UTC)Oh, god, yes, I need to watch School Reunion again heee! Ahem.
...heh. I think I'm going to have to download The Five Doctors just for that. Plus, good to see five of them in one fell swoop.
What's the name of the story where Turlough leaves? I want to see that, too.

Date: 2006-06-14 09:15 pm (UTC)School Reunion is brill. *squees over the Emo Timelord and the Emo Ex-Companion and, frankly, the tin dog*
The Five Doctors! Oooh, so much fun to be had. The title's a slight cheat (Four is in it for seconds, and One was recast due to the original actor having died about eight years before; so it's really Three And A Half Doctors) but it's still truly fantastic. Plus, Turlough. Turlough not having much to do, but still, Turlough.
The story where Turlough leaves is called Planet of Fire. It's great. Ooh, and features the Master! (And new companion Peri. Who is ballsy as hell in Planet of Fire, but has a truly awful American accent.)
(Pssst: Harry, not Henry; but yes, Harry rocks too!)

Date: 2006-06-15 05:10 pm (UTC)Ah, Harry, Henry, same difference. I think I'll never be able to remember his name. ;) Anyway - any good Harry stories to rec?
Heee! Three And A Half Doctors. And Turlough. I must definitely see it.

Date: 2006-06-09 09:37 pm (UTC)And yes, I know! Again with wanting to slash him and Turlough.
...I blame Harry Potter for my thing for redhead in school uniforms.
Anyway, I just want to watch at least one old Sarah Jane story. And I kinda like the scarf.
