Doctor Who 2x11, Fear Her.
I find myself oddly not terribly excited by this episode. For starters, after the magnificent part they wrote Shaun "Rocco" Parkes as Zack in the Satan two-parters, I expected something better for Nina Sosanya than this blah mum part. Honestly. She's such an amazing actress, and that was such a let-down. The little girl wasn't as freaky as she could've been, either. And let's not even mention the whole Doctor picking up the torch thing.
Of course, thematically it's brilliant. But, well. Yeah.
I don't know. There were good things, here and there. Like materialising the TARDIS facing the wrong way - and wow, the re-materialising it correctly? He can handle the TARDIS far better than he used to. I sort of liked her being so much trouble.
Now, despite the overly dramatic-ness of the teaser, I can't wait for next week. Because last year's final two-parter, well, had its flaws, but it didn't fail from making me feel, and I'm hoping for the Doctor breakdown we've all been waiting for. Oh, please. Plus, at last, no more Torchwood teasing, but Torchwood it-bloody-self.
Now, for
vandonovan (and thanks again!): my thoughts on Mawdryn Undead!
It was, indeed, such goodness. The plot was complex and relied on so many different character arcs. I love Turlough, I really do, and this is a brilliant example of how he can add so much more dynamics to a story, by simply being the guy who's out for himself. He's not about good or evil, just about wanting to survive. Also I don't know the Brigadier myself, but it's so nice to see an old companion pop up like that anyway, especially with such temporal consequences. The plight of Mawdryn and co was very interesting, too, much more than a simple "we want to steal the Doctor's regenerations mwa-ha-ha!" villain would have been.
Also, quote of the day's definitely Turlough's "I'm not that easy to get rid of." Yay for Turlough aboard the TARDIS! I'll be downloading the third story soon. But now, some Deadwood, and then a class to teach.
