First off, after having watched the whole of season 2 of Boomtown (all six episodes, yessir), it's official, it sucks. I don't know what happened, maybe the network was putting the pressure on them because they didn't have a good enough audience and so they had to make it less original, but hell. Suddenly it became... just like any other show. They still made the most of Neal McDonough's amazing acting skills, for instance, but his character was not the same. The writing itself absolutely sucked! I know, I'm being harsh, but hell I'm feeling harsh. After such a first season, how can you drop to something so common-place? The very thing that was the core of this show, the split-up narration with scenes that sometimes did not gain their meaning until the very end of the episode when we got the final piece of the puzzle... gone! The complexity of the characters, their never-that-simple relationships, or on the contrary their decidedly straight-forward and touching and endearing interactions... adieu! I wish they hadn't got a second season. Because the way the first one ended, with those three episodes focused on Fearless, David and Joel... brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. They should have ended it on that.

That said, Joey has never seen The NeverEnding Story. Is it just me, or should no child be allowed to grow up without having seen the NeverEnding Story?

Had a nice little holiday in Brittany, despite overall pretty crappy weather. I spent quality time with the family (I love my family!), ate some niiiice food, did some shopping, did some watching, did some iconing, did some writing. I'll post the writing as it gets betaread and approved for posting, and there'll be an icon post one of these days, and as for the watching... Find out! )

Other than that, we went to the cinema on Sunday night and caught Mr. and Mrs. Smith, which was really excellent. I didn't think I'd say that, but truly. It's such good entertainment, well-written, well-acted, everything. And I love Brad Pitt. So. Much, right now. Loved Vince Vaughn, too. I laughed quite a bit. Ok, more than a bit. And people clapped at the end!

Also watched 2x06 of Rescue Me, and am now consumed with anxiousness about the fate of a particular character. And I wanna comfort another one so much. Aw. Poor baby.

I'm now trying to catch up with my flist, but it's quite hard. I'll try to at least read whatever fiction has been posted, but I can't make any promise.

And I love Nathan Fillion.

... don't wanna be working. Argh. Trip went all right. Being back at school is hell, though, apart from seeing some people again which is of the nice. But I miss having a certain someone in my bed.

Watched a few things I had taped over the holidays - a Sherlock Holmes with Rupert Everett, first. I really enjoy that actor. And the actor who played the murderer, whoever he is. He was... interesting.

*stares, aghast, at the computer* They banned IMDb!!! What is wrong with them? *hesitates between raging or sighing forlornly* This is getting more and more ridiculous. Seriously. I feel like going up to the IT guys, grabbing their collars and shaking some bloody sense into them.

*takes a deep breath and moves on swiftly to the next topic* And, also, Desperados. At last. Boy, can Rodriguez shoot Antonio Banderas just the right way or what? Lots of actors I like + shameless lusting after Antonio (and, for the first time ever, after Salma Hayek - she really isn't my style though) + Rodriguez goodness all around = a happy Fan'. A happy Fan' that really wants to see Once Upon a Time in Mexico - was it any good? I didn't want to see it before I saw the first. Now I really can't wait to meet Agent Sands.

Also, the Astronaut's Wife, with Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron and Clea Duvall? Three names, three reasons that should be enough to make me watch it (Johnny and Clea more than Charlize, granted). But it was so... very... boring. I just couldn't fake interest. Blah.

Finally - Boomtown. It's a real shame, but it seems that the second season is really much less good than the first one. With each new episode I see, I feel less horrified at the unfairness of its cancellation. It's just not as well-written. The power of Boomtown stemmed from its narrative, the way the story was pieced together with all those different viewpoints. Its strength came from the multiplicity of viewpoints. Now they tend to focus more on one character in each episode and it's a damned shame - they did that before, but all through everybody's eyes. Now they just have far too much of a couple characters' viewpoints, imho. It seems to be getting more conventional, and not in a good way, and maybe I'm just watching all the wrong episodes but the character of David McNorris seems to have lost all his interest, and I adored him something fierce. (And they write him poorly - yes, I'm sure he'd give Tom a lecture on guilt in the middle of the police station. Not.) But I still love Joel very madly. *sends love to Donnie Wahlberg*

Since I now can't even access my Free account, I'm trying again to post from my freesbee address (this is soon gonna get too tricky, I feel like the tech guys who handle the filters and I are in a fight for supremacy where they don't even know (or care to know) who I am - it's me trying to outsmart the system! And they'll probably prevail, who am I kidding?) and hopefully you'll get something else than a Tiscali ad.

So, how did the night out go? Quite, quite well actually. We missed the bus and were consequently an hour late, sorry again guys, but apart form that it all went without a hitch. We started in a bar called the Puna (salt and lemon tequilas, yay! And then a lovely cocktail called Sex on the French beach - don't ask me what was French about it though), and then only headed for Canal Street. We went to the Via Fossa, a bar/club decorated like a church. It was quite nice. And [livejournal.com profile] twixou, I'm sorry to report I did not see any Vince around (nor Stuart, alas). Daniel however got hit on by a variety of persons of both gender and was as drunk as he seems to get. A couple of teachers had come with us and it was all manners of nice to chat with them. Also, Fred had brought a couple of friends of his who were v. nice too. I had a lovely chat with Madeleine (well, more than one actually, but... oh well) and she lent me a couple movies and a show.

Did I dream that you'd joined the LJ community, Madeleine? If not: I'm done watching it all, I'll give you a ring one of these days to see about giving them back to you (and I can't read comments, in case you reply to this post - ask Fred for my e-mail address or phone number if you want - I'll friend you back whenever I have access to the LJ site). Tipping the Velvet was absolutely brilliant from beginning to end (Keeley!!! Sorrry.), Chutney Popcorn did not inspire me much at all and Better than Chocolate was a nice way to spend an hour and a half. I particularly liked the character of Judy, she was the most touching imho.

It took me a few minutes to actually realise where I'd seen one of the guest stars in the latest Spooks episodes: it was Andy Serkis! But he had long blond hair (no, not quite Elvish style). It was a good performance, as always. Also, I spotted Boomtown in the TV program! It's so good to see more of that show. I adore Donnie Wahlberg very very much. And I'm going to be able to watch Little Britain and see what the fuss is all about, a new season is starting on Friday.

I hope we'll be able to go out to Manchester again before break. I'm feeling a bit bluesy these days, however, I don't quite know why. I wasn't like that last year. Anyway. I can't wait to be back home and see y'all guys!

Update on Kaylee: my father called them this morning, since they still weren't calling him. Seems there was a bit of a mishap and Kaylee got sent to Apple already, without their making a devis for us. The one he had on the phone was like, "oh, you're not under guarantee anymore?" *eyeroll and irritated sigh* We told them we weren't. Anyway. So the good news is that I'll probably (probably) have her back sometimes next week. The bad news is, I don't know how much it'll cost me. If it's a flaw that's on a lot of iBooks, I might not be charged. Otherwise, the first repair price is 300 and then some euros. *chokes* And that's only the first price.

Have finished watching season one of Boomtown. It was excellent up until the end. Special mention to the episode Fearless dealing with child molesters and faith in the view of such atrocities, and to the finale as well. Donnie Wahlberg is an excellent actor. Incredibly good. And as far as interesting faces go, Neal McDonough is my latest crush-that's-not. He portrays a morally ambiguous deputee DA who strives not to be like his father and in so doing becomes more and more like him. Actually, every and all character you see in there is fascinating. That show kicks major arse, people.

Have one episode of Spooks left to watch - and indeed, I'm missing the end of S2. Argh! So far it's been excellent. I especially liked the episode with the drill, that was brilliant, extremely well-acted too. The end was perfect.

Wrote a whole chapter that's supposed to stand in the middle of my Firefly/HL crossover yesterday. It was... hard. And for some reason my Methos-muse is really not cooperating these days, such a pain! I tried to write a short Methos-meets-Illyria fic yesterday (can you just imagine the brilliant dialogue?) except I couldn't write the old man. Thankfully, he didn't appear all that much in the chapter I wrote. And so, yes, chapter wasn't that hard to write, it flowed quite easily, but it's afterwards that it left me feeling rather cranky because of what it was about. Characters should not be able to affect us that much.

Joey arrives on Friday evening, yay! It feels as if I hadn't seen her in ages.

Joyeux anniversaire, [livejournal.com profile] fargo_01!

J'espère que tu as passé une bonne journée. 82 powaaa! (En espérant que je ne me plante pas dans l'année... ;) ) Et Jo vient de me dire qu'en fait tu étais du 30 - c'est la faute du calendrier de BR si je suis en retard!!

Other than that, about this weekend. )

Had my landlady on the phone, v. nice. No internet connection though. Got my claddagh ring back at last! It had been too long. Watched two episodes of Boomtown, amazing, one of MI-5 (not as good as I expected, will see how it develops), and four of The Jury (thanks again, [livejournal.com profile] yodah!), with a very funny Adam Busch and a whole lot of great actors. It's nothing earth-shattering, but it's quite well-written and I'm enjoying it immensely (too bad it's already got cancelled).
