Have had the time to cool down from learning that the first French gay marriage has been cancelled. Am now eagerly awaiting what is coming up next. My claddagh is gonna get fixed, it's just weird not to wear it now. I always feel like I lost it, before remembering it's not on my finger on purpose. Need to phone the Iceland Consulate tomorrow to figure out whether I can get into their country with my so-very-recently-expired passport, since I lost my ID card and cannot get another one made in time.

On the plus side, it seems that many more people than last year will be able to make it to our birthday party this year. Yay!

Had a drink with Elodie this afternoon; we stumbled across a friend from university (Marie-Clémence, who says hi, Jo!) and had her and her friend (Audrey, remember her from the Fete de la Musique?) sit down with us. It was all manners of nice. We stopped by the Fnac and I yet again had a crush on a cheap DVD (after preventing myself from buying the Richard III with Sir Ian McKellen), Nick of Time with Johnny Depp, Christopher Walken and Roma Maffia. I do not have a clue whether the film is good, but with such a cast, how could i pass up on it? Again, it was cheap.

Now, am hesitating between watching that, or the commentary to A Knight's Tale. I think I'll flick a coin over it.

Watched Titanic at last, lent by Elodie. I don't think I'd ever seen it in English. I was still half-bored during most of the movie. There seems to me to be a problem of balance in it. It walks the line between a documentary and a fiction, and as such seems rather unbalanced to me. It's a shame, for there are some good things in there. Don't think it's Leo's finest work, though, I much prefer him in Romeo + Juliet and Catch Me If You Can (granted, I can't think of anything else I liked him in). Kate is as good as ever, and beautiful too. Billy Zane's character is disappointingly two-dimensional, I wish they had worked on him some more. (I want to see Twin Peaks again!) The thing I'll most fondly remember is Victor Garber. It's entirely possible that his character and performance would not have touched me so if I weren't an Alias semi-fan, and consequently quite taken with and used to his "yes that slight twitch of my lip is a smile, yes that raise of an eyebrow is as close to an emotion as you'll see cross my face" act, but they sure did touch me. All hail to Victor!

Get me straight, Titanic isn't a bad movie. It's just very much not my cup of tea. It lacks focus, too, I think. But there are some beautiful shots, and very good actors, too. It has ambition, but maybe lacks scope, at least in my view.

I'll leave you be the big Titanic fan, Jo. I'll settle with all those other thousands of obsessions I have.

On a sidenote, if there is one thing I did not miss about being at home, it is arguing with my sister.

(You're going to get tired of hearing from me...)

The Titanic has always interested me (I have this weird thing for disasters), and I thought the movie did a good job of representing the sinking. But you hit the nail on the head - it was unbalanced. I still loved it, but it's not one of my all-time favorites.

But I had to answer this because I'm freaking a bit. I love Alias, and Jack is my favorite character in it. Hearing you praise Victor really made me cheer! He was great in Titanic. (And I love your description of him as Jack! LOL!)

And... correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you also a Firefly fan?

You're not interrupting! I'm happy to talk to anyone who likes Firefly. How did it get canceled? - morons run the TV business over here. Alias got screwed up (and the X-Files, from what people tell me), and Angel and Firefly got canceled. Morons.

Anyway, I do plan to see the movie when it comes out. Many times! I'm hoping all the Firefly fans can send the TV execs a clear message - "You guys were *idiots* to cancel this show!"

yeah but at least Angel lived 5 years. Firefly didn't even reach 15 episodes.

The girls got me hooked :) Thanks Fan' and Jo
It was a great show and it was a first season !!! I mean usually first seasons are dreadful or at least average...

I don't know what to expect from the movie... Both formats are totally different and I feared that, without time to develop the arcs, the flick only get to be your average Sci-Fi movie with kick ass characters...

A trailer has been showed at the SanDiego con, last week end and the buzz is pretty good. If the movie does well, Universal is ready to make a trilogy.
Let's hope.

I will go and watch it anyway, dragging all the people I can. Twice.

And it was *time* for Angel to stop. Unless Joss got himself back together, but it all sounded as if Serenity were his priority - can hardly blame him! Anyway. Maybe we missed something, maybe a sixth season would have seen a renewal of interest for that show in me. All I know is, S5 managed to make me lose what little interest I had left. Okay, not true. Some characters still interested me. Some arcs still did. But... yeah. I can't say I'm sad it stopped.

I'm very anxious about Serenity as well. Just like when there were talks of a Buffy film. I'm just worried that it won't make it to the big screen unaltered (in a bad way, alterations can be of the good). You put it well, Fred, when you say that it might only "get to be your average Sci-Fi movie with kick ass characters." But still, I'm hoping for more, because... Reavers. Reavers are exceptional, terrifying bad guys. If you can even call them bad, and guys.

And they'd better release it in bloody English!

(Not tired just yet.)

As far as representing it goes, it sure did. The FX and all were wonderful, and actually the whole of it was rather realistic, even pre-sinking, as far as class representation went. But that problem of balance really upset me, in so far that the movie failed to keep me interested. It's really too bad, 'cause cheesy as it might be, Rose and Jack's story *is* beautiful and tragic in all the ways that I would usually like. Oh well.

As for Victor - I didn't know him before Alias. Alias truly made me a fan. I adore Jack. I don't think I'm a true Alias fan, or at least not anymore. Let's say I'm a big Alias S2 fan. ;)

Yes. All manners of yes. I am a huge Firefly fan. I can't recall any other show that was so good in its first season. Might be because I'm especially sensitive to Joss's way of story-telling (big Buffy fan I am, too), but I adore Firefly. Who would have guessed that it was possible to have nine people on the credits, from the very start, and pull it all off so effortlessly? And amazing characters at that, not one of them too simple. *points at icon* And Wash is even more endearing to me than Wat is.

Alias S2 rocked. S3... bleh, don't even get me started. Alias made me a Victor fan, too.

I'm just now watching Buffy, believe it or not. I'm in the middle of S2. Adore Spike.

I love the characters on Firefly so much that, if you take the lust factor out (Mal all the way), I couldn't possibly pick a favorite.

OK, I'll shut up now.

Same here. Didn't know Victor before. Also made me a big fan of Lena Olin. Beyond her simple beauty - she played Irina perfectly. Such danger and ambiguity and... she and Victor were great on screen. I loved all the interaction between those two characters.

Aaaah, I fondly remember the time when I was, too, the hugest Spike fan. He lost his appeal somewhere in this last season of Angel. I should rewatch old episodes. Anyway - only discovering Buffy now? You're in for a treat. Enjoy!

I think I could say who isn't my favourite, but not who is. (And yes, I'm all for Mal too!) Anyway, those who aren't my favourite are pretty much Book, Simon, Inara and Kaylee. Don't mistake me, I adore them all the same. I'm so very curious about Inara's and Book's past, and quite the Simon/Kaylee shipper, but I know for sure that if I had to choose one favourite, it wouldn't be any of them. Though it's really unfair to them... Argh, now I'm starting to think I couldn't choose either. That show is just -

Right. Shutting up before I get carried away too far. Good plan.
