So, ranting aplenty today...
Lost
twixou and I had a date with Ian Somerhalder and Dominic Monaghan (respectively) this afternoon. Well, okay, we wish. Point is, we watched the whole pilot of Lost, J.J Abrams' latest TV show, with an amazing cast. Btw,
twixou, Dominic's from Manchester (though he was born in Berlin and is fluent in German) and he has a thing for bugs can sing, apparently, since he did some vocals on an album with Elijah. And our mystery man Sawyer with the gun is from California and you think you saw him somewhere? He cameo'ed in the pilot of Angel. As for Fredric Lehne, the marshall, he was indeed that big jerk guy in Firefly's Heart of Gold, and he has starred in so many things... I'm not listing 'em all.
That little piece of trivia being over with, what about the show? It was... all right. I had enough of Matthew Fox after the first quarter of an hour (and I'm being generous). Other characters, though, are very interesting. Sawyer and Sayid, for instance, I much like. Claire, the pregnant woman, is also great. Daniel Dae Kim's character leaves me unable to decide whether to hate him or not. I think I'll just not. Evangeline Lilly's as beautiful as usual, and her character shows promise.
As for Dom... he makes me laugh so much. Go, Dom, go! "Of course I'm in Driveshaft!"
Also, kudos to Greg Grunberg for his cameo.
All in all, it's a pilot. It can be good, I have no doubt about that. But it can also be crap. The whole "Dr Moreau" feel to it kinda scares me, I hope the mythology behind it is solid and not ridiculous, we all know J.J.'s capable of very complicated and far-fetched ideas. I'd rather have something solid.
ER
Well. I knew it was coming, thanks to Alex, so I wasn't shocked or anything. I'm just bloody pissed that I won't see next week's episode with his funeral. I just wanted to say a word for Romano, because he was such a jerk. Very hateful. Incredibly hateful. Yet he had a heart and I love that they gave him this moment in the previous ep, where he shook hands with that seropositive guy. I have loved hating him for quite a few seasons now, from the very start actually. So, Paul? Thanks for portraying the Rocket so well. It was a tough one, making us enjoy him so much, but we sure did.
My so-called life.
I watched an episode again yesterday. This is an amazing show, people, and no matter how much I love Buffy, I think My so-called life is the best show to ever have described teenage years. It is so real. It is so well-acted, well-written, well-shot. I want that series on DVDs very, very badly. It's just... they've got everything about adolescence down. I see myself in this. And the dialogues... wow. As for the acting, just look at the cast. Jared Leto makes Jordan Catalano irresistible, despite how much of a jerk that guy is. I do think Angela was Claire Danes' best part. AJ Langer still rocks my world, as well. And of course, the lovely Devon Gummersall, so very different from his "Lisa the lesbian-identified man" in The L-Word, as nerdy Brian Krakow.
And it's not just adolescence. What we see with Angela's parents is also incredibly interesting. Ah. I'm in love with that show. (And possibly Angela and Jordan Catalano.)
And I need other people to come with me to Serenity, the Firefly con in London the last weekend of April. Given that I can go, which is not yet sure. Any volunteers? Go on the starfury site to check it out.
Anxiety is starting to build up. I'm leaving on Tuesday! Eeep! That's the day after tomorrow! Eeep again!
