I am a perverted little creature.

So
greenie_breizh and I started watching Berserk, despite a rather disappointing pilot. And it's wonderful! Mostly because of characters like Griffith (first and foremost) but also Caska or Judeau. But the why of my above-mentioned perversion?
I cannot watch it without seeing slashy undertones to everything, and I do mean everything, that's going on between Griffith and Gatsu. It can't just be me, the writers must have done that on purpose, I will not be convinced otherwise. The dialogues between those two keep breaking my gaydar. (Bidar. Whatever.) If it's a widely acknowledged thing in the world of anime, sorry for sounding so very "shocked" (wrong word, but I can't find anything better). It probably is, because I don't see how anyone can overlook it.
For instance. Griffith wants Gatsu to join his band of mercenaries. So he repeatedly tells him he wants him, and likes him, and wants him, and also wants him. Once he wins the fight that was supposed to decide whether or not Gatsu would join them, what does he say? "You are mine now." Yuh-uh. And in the last episode we watched, Gatsu is holding his hell-of-a-phallic-symbol of a huge sword in a very suggestive position (think erection, people) and thinking, once more, of Griffith and how "now I wield my sword for him." I kid you not. And those are only a couple of examples, there are so many more.
The subtext is there. I don't care that they've just introduced the insipid female love interest for Griffith, that can't erase all the subtext. I mean, I care that they have, as in I wouldn't ignore it if I ever wrote some Berserk fic, but to me, right now, she is of such little import. What we've seen of the character makes her unsympathetic and Griffith's attachment to her very superficial, whereas his love (yes, love) for Gatsu runs much deeper. Now, Gatsu annoys me more than anything else half the time, but still. If I compare him to Jos it gets much better, not surprisingly. I haven't yet figured out whether that makes Griffith Niko or Azarcon, but Gambino sure makes a perfect Falcone.
Now, I could see Gatsu ending up with Caska instead of Griffith, and this could make for beautiful angst. Because she loves Griffith so. It's obvious. I love this! I wanna watch more. I hope it won't disappoint. An anime inspired from an Icelandic myth, with a character like Griffith (Caska doesn't hurt either, and even Gatsu has his interest), and slashy subtext all the way? This is heaven. (Even though I'm not a big fan of the animation, I thought Cowboy Bebop or Ghost in the Shell or Samurai Champloo were much better in that respect. But you can't have everything.)
Now, I hope they'll also make something interesting out of Corkas, instead of keeping him as the Clichéd!Jerk.
On an unrelated note, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was everything I expected it to be. And I adore Jason Lee. And my friends, though that's even more unrelated.
And here's a meme gakked from the lovely
cinnamongrr1.
1. Who are you?
2. Are we friends?
3. When and how did we meet?
4. Do you have a crush on me?
5. Would you kiss me?
6. Describe me in one word.
7. What was your first impression?
8. Do you still think that way about me now?
9. What reminds you of me?
10. If you could give me anything what would it be?
11. How well do you know me?
12. When's the last time you saw me?
13. Ever wanted to tell me something but couldn't?
14. Are you going to put this on your LiveJournal and see what I say about you?
