Ok, so I just changed my layout (yeah, me too... it's contagious). And this isn't really the layout I want, but I'll take in for the moment because it's easy to put a header with this one. That said, could anyone either explain a little something to me, or point me towards a tutorial that does? We'd love to use the "Smooth Sailing" layout, but we wanna have headers. How do we put a header in?

Thanks in advance!

(Yeah, so we're not that good at html, clearly.)

That layout doesn't seem to be in the FAQs and tutorials yet. The info might be hard to find.

Eh Smooth Sailing is the one I use! It's a good one, but I have no idea about headers sorry. I don't think you can do it honestly with this layout.

Love your new header!

(a bit late, but I uploaded your Jamie icon a few days ago! Jamie goodness! :))

Smooth Sailing is awesome, but you've taken away all the options!!!!

Never got a chance to tell you I laughed at that "ride a bowboy" layout. :)

What do you mean, I've taken away all the options ? You mean the sidebar ? I didn't like it. Ian's better. :)

Eh eh, thx a lot. Didn't you drool just a little bit? :p

Yeah, I meant the sidebar, because the cool thing about this layout is that it lists your tag in the sidebar, but without it, well... it doesn't anymore ;) ;)

I didn't drool, but I can see why you would. :-p :-p

Yay!! *sends love to Jamie* (Though now I can see this icon could use a bit of sharpening on dear Jamie itself. Argh! I hate it, I wanna redo more than half my icons now!)

And, well, I could do it if someone had overrides for the html code. *pouts* Maybe I should ask a favour from Frédéric, that should be easy for him...

Doesn't the overrides things only work for S1? I know I customized a bunch of stuff by hand on one of my LJ accounts.

I once managed to play with individual entries on S, adding background and stuff. And when posting the Ireland review or the Manny the Snowlad story, I actually did a web page on Dreamweaver, shopped off all what wasn't necessary for LJ and then it worked fine in the entry to display the pics where I wanted among the text. But it was just about individual entries, you can't touch the whole page.

OR... I'm more clueless than I thought about your "header". What do you mean exactly? And what do you want to change with it???

All I wanna do is be able to have a header, as I do right now, only with the Smooth Sailing style instead of this one. Hmm, I should also figure out how to put icons in the sidebars.

Ok. I thought you were already in Smooth Sailing.
I had quickly looked yesterday, but there didn't seem to be much options available. Might be more of them on a paid account.

Nah, it's not in the options even for a paid account, otherwise I'd hardly need people's help!

I searched a while, I managed to separate the title part from "Recent Entry" from how many pixels I wanted, but I haven't managed to go farther so far.

You have to play with the css. Download the page as a "complete" webpage, you'll manage to get the stylesheet back. And then you have to try to find what kind of parameters you can change or add in it to get what you want. IF it is possible.
I know I managed to help Alexia with that a few weeks ago, but it was a less complicated case.

Victoire! Je l'ai presque.
Enfin, je l'ai sur la version de test. Il ne me reste qu'à trouver pourquoi la version en ligne est très légérement différente, je verrais ça ce soir.

Ouf... I think I got it this time

Ok. It's not that easy. It doesn't seem to work with simple overriding, because they just add them at the end and it's not really taken into account.

One thing that might work:
* work on all the rest, keeping in mind there will be that pic of yours above.
* once you're done with it, save your livejournal webpage in complete mode so that you get back your stylesheet
* keep a copy of it, just in case
* modify the "header-title" part. What you will need to add is the url for your header pic, something to tell them what to do with it, and how much height you want. By example:
.header-title {PADDING-TOP: 300px; BACKGROUND-IMAGE: url(http://www.google.com/intl/en/images/logo.gif); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: top center;}
Of course, leave all what the rest that was in that header-title part, unless you also need to try to change some margins or whatever
* Save your stylesheet somewhere on the web
* Go to the Layout part of the customization page, go down to "Replacement Stylesheet URL" and give them the url of your stylesheet.
* Cross fingers and hope it works

I couldn't test it entirely, I just did so locally.
I hope it helps.

You can wait before the uploading&modyfying layout bit, and first try the stylesheet locally (you just have to load the page you saved, it will use the saved stylesheet), it's faster to try out things.

Huh. I think I'll try and read that again when my brain feels remotely like comprehending something like that.

Have you ever done all by yourself a css stylesheet?
If you have, it's not that complicated.
If you haven't.... Well, you can always set all the other options, and I can modify the file for you if it's not yet clear.

I'm sorry I can't help you, but I'm interested too, I use "smooth sailing too".

Your header is really cool ^^ Love it very much !

Look my latest answer above.
I think it works. Well, I hope. ;-)

It's a bit complicated, though.
