What can I say? Hugh's a hottie, and that accent of his...

I think I'll post Boys Meet Boys sometime next week. It only needs a few more tiny touches here and there. Saw the Navigators by Ken Loach last night, I recommend it to any and all. It's brilliant. Also watched Angel's 515 to 520...

First, I've only watched those eps once. This is all mainly an emotional response to them. Be warned.

Then, can I just stress once more how horribly evil spoilers are? I'd been spoiled about pretty much everything, even though I didn't want to be: Fred, Adam, Connor, Italy, Lindsey... And I really hated it. Big time.

515 - A hole in the world

Now, no matter how evil spoilers are, I think knowing that Fred would die actually allowed me to "enjoy" A Hole In The World much more. Because I didn't have hope, and I was suffering right there with the different characters. For some reason, even Knox. Ironic that at the beginning of the episode, I was telling myself the actor really rocked and it was funny that each time, he got nice characters you couldn't not like and yet you had to despise and/or pity them, if that makes sense. And I was like, at least I don't have to despise/pity Knox. And then he went and was a disciple of Illyria. And he made a right good job of it. I don't know why, but each time he spoke of Fred in such high terms, it broke my heart. So did Gunn. I was right there with him. And Amy did such a wonderful job, and so did Alexis. It was heartbreaking.

And I love Drogyn. First - accent. Made Spike sound sort of fake. Just for his accent, I loved him. But then, he can't lie? That's bloody brilliant. I need to find out whether "Drogyn" is supposed to be a legendary figure already, or if I can have fun with him as I want... possibly making him into Thomas the rhymer? Tom the Frank? Don't know how he's called in English, but he used to be a poet before Titania, Queen of Fairies, condemned him to always telling the truth and kept him with her in her court, human that he was - took him to bed, too. Okay, so he's not supposed to look like Drogyn, or be English (Scottish instead), or kick arse, but I don't much care. I wanna have fun with the guy. Legends are always warped anyway. Either I'll write him his own fic, or I'll use him in the third part of Crossed Destinies, I'm not sure yet. But I can already feel he's got one hell of a story to tell.

To go back to the episode, I also much enjoyed the fact that Spike was all ready to go before this thing with Fred happened, and that he was then so intent on seeing it through. They're finally going to the core of the matter between Angel and Spike, and it's about time. The scenes in the Deeper Well were also much with the heartbreak, as far as I'm concerned.

516 - Shells

Thank Joss that Wesley did say it was not just for him to kill Knox. I really enjoy what they're doing between him and Illyria, the premises of which are shown in this episode. That she wishes to reason with him, to understand him, rather than just crunch him under her soles, so to speak. Did I mention Amy was a hell of an actress? 'Cause she is.

I'm not sure I like who Wesley has become. At all. I feel for him, yes. I understand him, yes. But I don't like him. He stabbed Gunn, he shot Knox. It makes me wonder about how much memories shape us into what we are - I would have thought that without all the memories of S3 and S4 as they really were, Wesley would have been more like the "old" Wesley. (Also, more like the Wesley who angsted so much over killing his father.) But it seemed that the memories shaped him no matter what, even when he had no longer any access to them.

I'm happy the Council (or really, Giles) is still so very much against Wolfram & Hart. Damage remains the best episode of the season for me, still. And what, so now for Angel Willow's turned into "a close one is dead and you can't quite accept it? call the Red Witch hotline and have them brought back to you. The Red Witch declines all responsibility in cases of zombies, brain damage, demon hitch-hikers from other dimensions and all out complications"? This unwillingness to admit death is typical of Western society, I just don't get it. Angel might be going on three centuries, but he's such a kid at heart. She's gone. It's unfair, especially that it should be her, especially that it's because of her qualities that it was her, but she's gone. Learn to deal, people. Death is a part of life.

I got to thinking, what with the way nobody seemed to give a damn about Cordelia's death, they probably meant to compensate with Fred's...

And I can't believe it, but for one instant, I actually believed in Eve/Lindsey. For those very few seconds during which she sang. I love you guys for having her sing this particular song. It was brilliant.

517 - Underneath

I really wish Chris got a new haircut. That being said, that episode wasn't too bad at all. Besides, Adaaaaaam!!!!!! *coughs* Hmm, sorry. I'm a bit of an Adam Baldwin fangirl, I suppose. Always loved the guy, even before Firefly. love him even more since then. He plays a wicked Marcus. I so very much love him. And he *is* well-dressed.

And before I forget, it's Lorne who broke my heart in that particular episode. Especially when they told him they'd left Gunn behind. You could feel his angst so well. Andy, mate, you're so talented. Gunn's moment of atonement was heartbreaking too.

That being said, I'm still very much not believing Eve/Lindsey. I don't know why. It just doesn't fit. None of it does. And Lindsey - well he was more Lindsey than he had been so far in this season, but it still wasn't truly him. Where was the passion, the fire? Lindsey is nothing without the passion.

518 - Origin

I've got to admit, I'd been spoiled about so many things I'd quite forgotten to look forward to/apprehend the return of Connor, until his new dad was explaining how he'd got back up without so much as a scratch. And Vincent, why did you cut your hair? *grin* Sorry, guys. The kid's still cuddle-worthy anyway.

I love Vincent (haircut aside - he was so much better-looking at the end of S4 - what do you mean, I'm just saying that 'cause then he was angsty and I like the angst?). He's just as good at playing the careless college kid as the angsty, neurosed all the ways to Sunday kid. (And I don't just mean on Angel. Check out his acting skills in Another Day in Paradise, or in The Unsaid - amazing movie. Breathtaking performance.) It was great to see Connor so careless, so excited, so... human. I particularly liked the joke about him and dominating women in leather.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm still as far from okay with what Angel did to him and to everybody as you can be. So very far from it. And though it makes sense, it sucks that Wesley is suddenly too ensconced in guilt to hold it against Angel. I really wish Angel had to deal with more shit about that. Where are the consequences? Where was the small print in that contract he signed in blood?

Very much loved Illyria's attempts at understanding how much of one's memories shaped a person into what they are, or were a person for that matter. She really is a great character. Unstable, crazy, but also curious, in some way. Forcing us to wonder about our own nature.

I feel Angel got off far too lightly, and I was hating the ending. Until Connor told him he'd learned it from his dad and I realised he did remember. That was brilliant. Your memories make a lot of what you are, because without the memories of his 'fake' life, that kid would never have been stable enough to make such a decision. It proved what a great family he was in, and how balanced he now was. I love the kid.

But dammit, why doesn't Angel have to face any consequence? If at least Spike had learned about Connor to confront him about it. Or Lindsey, where the hell are Lindsey and Eve and why isn't Lindsey confronting Angel about Darla's son? If anyone would, it's Lindsey. I don't care that he's supposedly in love with Eve. Darla was something special.

But no. The only ones who had to gain their memories back are Wesley, Illyria and Connor. A man too wrapped up in his newfound guilt to be mad at Angel. A... demon-woman who couldn't care less about Angel. A kid who has grown enough to know what he's got, and not want to let go of it.

519 - Time Bomb

I don't think I like what they're doing with Wesley in this one. Alexis plays the crazy side of him perfectly, but I just don't see it happening. Now, I completely believe he'd tell everyone it would kill her, when in fact it would just help her. All in all, not a bad episode. Gunn is back. Angel turns even more Wolfram-&-Harty. Adam is his usual genius self.

When are we getting news about Serenity? I wanna see that movie.

520 - The Girl in Question

Okay, first, can we maybe find someone who looks a bit more like Buffy from afar? It was already quite ridiculous in Soul Purpose, but here... *sigh* That being said, Andreeeeeew! Tom looks amazing with his hair like that (not sleeked back at the end, but messy at the beginning). Drew Goddard is the official Andrew God. For those who didn't know and who might care, he's said to be crossing over to Alias next year - I expect he'll make me actually love Marshall. Yes. That's the power of Drew.

That being said, I have mixed feelings about this episode. Andrew was great, obviously, Drew saw to that. Only one thing could have made it better: if at the end, it hadn't been two hot Italian chicks, but a cute young man with a definite effeminate side (or not - hey, what if it had been The Return of Scott Hope? That would have majorly rocked!). I would have loved for Andrew's change to not only be into dressed-for-opera Andrew, but also, instead of I've-got-my-own-Bond-girls Andrew, for him to be now-at-last-openly-gay Andrew. But the girls made much sense as well. Kinda like Jono's date in The Prom.

Now, the Angel/Spike stuff... I really have trouble with the way they portray their relationships with Darla and Dru. I'm sorry, I'm just not buying it. I don't believe for a second that Darla would let Angelus get away with his possessive attitude. She's his Sire, and a hell of a strong one at that. I kinda enjoyed their interaction anyway, but... I dunno. I just dunno. Something was missing.

Also... the Italian parts were fun and all, but... Okay, ha-ha, Spike and Angel on a scooter. Okay, ha-ha, they're getting blown up. And hey, I loved that duster! And okay, ha-ha, Angel looked even more dorky in that jacket. But it's the end of the show. It's pretty much the end of the 'verse as written by Joss. I expected more than ha-ha's. I expected angst, by buttloads really. I expect - something else. Something more.

Frel this, I expected Sarah Michelle Gellar to stop being a dumbass and agree to guest-star!! If it is her choice indeed not to. If it's not, I'm sorry Sarah, you might not be a dumbass (despite what your choice in movies points to). A friend had told me Joss had said he didn't want to have SMG in it because he didn't want Buffy to end as a guest-star in AtS. Well if this is true, I'm sorry to tell you that you frelled this up royally, Joss. Because it was much worse. She didn't end up being a guest-star in AtS. She ended up being a blond wig in AtS! She deserved more. Some closure would have been nice.

And Spike asking after the niblet would not have been remiss either!

Anyway, I guess that's it for AtS so far. I can't wait for the final. All in all, I've got my criticisms, but I enjoyed those last few episodes much more than I enjoyed the rest of the season (okay, granted, not that hard).

And let it be said that anyone who spoils me about 521 or 522, I will dig out their pancreas with a rusty butter knife, to take up a threat of Harl's. Or pop their eyes out with a spoon, to take up one of Skids'. Unless I like the spoilerer. Be warned, people.

And spoilerless, the seasone finale of WaTchers was amazing. This show was so brilliant. I can't wait for next season! The work those guys put into it, the quality of the writing... Simply amazing. It sucks that they can't keep it in tune with Angel anymore. Oh well. Those guys did a kick-arse job. I suggest you all go read it, really.

Anyway, you won't find much of me online this weekend, since [livejournal.com profile] heikki_cheren is coming over and I expect we'll be too busy. Yay!! She's arriving tomorrow afternoon. :)))

He even succeeded at being not to bad in Van Helsing (This movie sucks beyond belief)
And he IS hot...

Ok you're way cooler... :-))

You guys are not even comparable. As Fred rightfully point out, he's Wolverine... that says it all. And yet, for some weird reason I can't quite figure out, I'd still agree with you, love.

His accent's cooler than yours, though, Jo, sorry. ;-p

And I dunno, Fred, go check out the meme site I guess. Did you do the which PotC character one? Maybe *you'd* get Elizabeth.
