New layout

Yes, I'm going crazy while I can upload without tearing my hair out in frustration at Free (my host). And so, I have just changed layout for my LJ. Big thanks to
yodah who did the screencap used in the layout last night, out of the goodness of his heart. I love Shane and Mark, I think the writers are doing a great job with both their characters. The exact, complete quote is "You can do anything, you lucky bastard, you're alive! What's a little pain compared to that?"
I was about to say where it was from, but I wonder whether any of you will know. It's not too hard... if you've seen it. (Hint: it is absolutely not from the L-word.) The winner can request a drabble out of me.
I've also changed mood themes, replaced the old one by a Boy Meets Boy one.
Just a quick word to say that I've finally watched episode 11 of Doctor Who, and it rocks. Captain Jack is a wonderful addition to the crew of the Tardis, and you've got some priceless dialogue in there. Captain of the Innuendo Squad, indeed. (Such hard work...) I'm really quite amazed at the themes they tackle in this so-called children's show. If you'd told me, after I first watched Queer As Folk and saw Vince hooked up to Doctor Who, that I would one day become a fan... But I'm such a geek. The conclusion was foretold.

Date: 2005-07-13 03:24 am (UTC)It's just, for some reason, I feel very shy about "borrowing" her characters, and daring to write them myself. I don't know why, because for all other 'verses it doesn't bother me at all and I only see it as a proof of love of the 'verse or those characters or something. But with her characters? Maybe because I'm so in awe of the job she's done, I don't think I could do them justice. Or something.

Date: 2005-07-13 04:06 am (UTC)Hmm... How many times did you write stories about characters who were from a book, not a film/serie? Apart from the LotR ones, which are so integrated in our minds for so long, and who got highly influenced by the movie ones anyway? HP too got influenced by the movie...
I would think that using characters you only meet in a book would be quite different. That's for the general part. And more specifically, her characters are so fleshed out, the caracterization so well done, that it's even more difficult and intimidating.
But then, hmm... It's not as if I really used to borrow characters, so what would I know? :-P OC, that's my thing. The rest, I know I'm not good at it.
(OT: When I'm on such a page as http://www.livejournal.com/users/fan_elune/53734.html?thread=279014 , there's something wrong with your layout, on IE. All the stuff supposed to be on the right side are located *below* the comment. Nothing really important, but it's weird. Probably a LJ bug, though)

Date: 2005-07-13 04:27 am (UTC)And I think it's not only that. It's those books in particular. I can see myself writing literary characters like Alec and Seregil, for instance. Or guys from Fionavar. But her characters? Maybe also because I feel some sort of kinship with her, because her books are exactly what I so very much wish I could write, because she's a new writer, I don't know. The quality of the writing certainly plays a part, too. But I just don't wanna do this if she doesn't want other people to write her characters. So yeah, let me know? Thanks. (And enjoy that meeting, too, you lucky you.)
Hmm, indeed, same bug here. Weird. Oh well.

Date: 2005-07-13 04:46 am (UTC)I'll ask her, if I can. And, well, for the meeting... I already spent two weeks at her place anyway. :-P Ah, if I had known back then...
Actually, she was locked in her room most of the time, working on her computer. Since the release of Warchild, I can't help wondering when exactly she wrote it.

She's just too damned good.

Date: 2005-07-14 03:20 am (UTC)This one was real short.
The english one has been displayed on my LJ recently, and is now on www.fanfictions.net. Of course, as usual, it's not very long. And there's a whole background behind it that doesn't appear much (in fact, there's a longer fic planned for months, and this one was just a related scene that popped up and asked to be written in English. The same thing happened with a HP fic, except I haven't finished writing the English version).
Yeah, she is. And not too famous yet, which is nice sometimes. Shorter queues for autographs.... (I've been told the ones for Pratchett are hours-long)

Date: 2005-07-15 04:49 am (UTC)lol, good point. But I don't know, see, it's not so much an autograph or anything I would like with her. My dream is to like, go have some coffee or something, and just talk. And talk. And then talk some more. Because she must be so very interesting to talk to. *snaps back to reality* Yeah, anyway. That's my little daydream with her.

I'm afraid I might forget all about Warchild and just display the signs of my Inuits, Sames, Mongols and Other Interesting Autochton People little obsession, and mostly discuss her experience up there.
