The Other 48 Days
Nov. 18th, 2005 02:50 pmOh how hard do I love Eko. How very ruttin' hard. Adewale, you owe me. Completely and utterly. Any of you watched Oz? Because, in Oz. Man. Scary. Animalistic, I wanna say. But fucking scary and dangerous and just the type of guy you cross the road for when he's on the same pavement you are. And here, Eko, is just - he's just as dangerous, but he's so... Ha! And the scene where he comforts Ana? I'm gonna be iconing that so hard. Y'know, when I'm done with NaNo and can go back to iconing and ficcing.
That said, that episode actually interested me from beginning to end. The very last part, all the stuff we'd already seen? Went by quickly enough that I didn't mind (apart from Mike asking "what?" or whatever it is he said, that just sounded... wrong? stupid? I mean, right in front of you, Mike! Shannon with a bullet in her? That's what.). Also, since we all know what Naveen's capable of, I don't know. I'm not very impressed by his performance at her death.
But good gods, Eko.
*tries and focuses on something else for a while* So, Nathan! "Canada" was the thing that made me think that perhaps it was him. But when Goodwin went and talked to Ana by the river? I was like, oh yeah, you're so him. Poor Nathan. So, I liked Analucia before, I like her now. How she pieced it all together. How she took care of him. And that scene with Goodwin, spot-on. Smart, and I liked that Goodwin seemed somewhat less of a crazy fanatic than Ethan. He seemed more articulate, and less savage-like. If it is an infection sort of thing we're dealing with, it's really pretty weird.
Also, Day One, when we saw that kid's teddy bear? I got all frozen up and "aaah! that's the Other's teddy bear!" Because that scene with Eko and Jin under those bushes was creepy.
"You waited forty days to cry." *tackles tries to tackle Eko, ends up jumping on him, legs on each side of his waist and clutching to his shoulders, hugging the hell out of him*
I also like that we still don't know much of anything about either Eko or Analucia. Because I want episodes focused on them! Especially Eko. But Ana too, okay. But really, Eko!!!
Does it show that I am burning with Eko love?
That said, I really liked Goodwin. Am I the only one who thought he had a very Sean Bean feel to himself? *is still not tempted to go see Flightplan just because of the lovely Sean Bean, dammit, because that film is pure evil*
Ok, and finally, also, I immensely enjoy seeing something more realistic than what happened on the other side of the island. In so far as "we don't have a doctor, or meds, or food, or a hunter, or any of that stuff" goes. They have no comfort. They're being taken away by "Them". (Also love that for the Islanders it's "the Others," and for the tailies it's "Them.") And I also like that they seemed to have got to the other bunker without so many days working on a bloody hatch, because that's a JJ thing. I like that it seemed natural for them to just find it. It's random! The Islanders might have stumbled upon the second entrance to the bunker, if it hadn't been for JJ not making them do that. It's random. I'm all for random.
All in all, I really enjoyed this episode. Probably because I like Ana too much, and I adore Eko. (It had been a while since I'd said it. Two paragraphs!)
Now just get Jack to tend to Sawyer prettypleasethankyou!
Have also tried Arrested Development, following
wields_a_pen's advice. And I actually know it! I'd caught a few bits of it two years ago I think, and stopped to watch because, Portia de Rossi. But then it only aired on cable, so I couldn't follow it, and anyway. It's pretty funny, sure, but I wasn't sucked in. I might give it another go later. After NaNo. Which is going along well, and for those who care I've put an extract of my first chapter up on my NaNo LJ,
nano_fan.
I have some Alias to watch, too. Oh, and I bought Profit! Couldn't resist Jim's call any longer. Have watched the pilot again, and I still love that show. So much. Will rant more when I watch more.
